Why Slowing Down May Be the Answer to Better Health
By Genevieve Cunningham
Our world today is so incredibly fast-paced. We're constantly on the move. We rush from one activity to another. We work more hours than ever before. And we force ourselves to be involved even when we're exhausted. While it can be good to be busy, it can be detrimental to our health if we're too busy. If you've noticed a decrease in your health and wellness, take a look at why slowing down may be the answer you need to boost your health and feel better than ever before.
Lower Stress
When we are too busy, it raises our stress and brings the negative side effects that come with it. These negative side effects may include headaches and raised blood pressure and exhaustion and heightened risk of major diseases. Slowing down helps us to eliminate some of the stress in our lives. While it can't completely eliminate stress, it can significantly lower what we're currently experiencing, which reduces the symptoms that we feel as well. Be picky about what you involve yourself in, and make sure that you have enough time to unwind, lower stress, and enjoy your life.
Time for Yourself
Slowing down gives us more time to actually take care of ourselves. When we get really busy, one of the first things that suffers is our self-care habits. We make less time for exercise and eating healthy. We make less time for rest. When we take a step back and slow down, we may find that our self-care habits are all but non-existent. Take this opportunity to reinstate your self-care, and you will be feeling more like yourself and better than ever before in no time at all.
Happiness
When people slow down, they often find that they feel happier in everyday life. Why? Maybe it's because they actually feel less stress. Maybe it's because they actually have time for themselves. Maybe it's a big combination of time and energy and rest. Whatever the case may be, more happiness in your life is definitely a reason to slow down and smell the roses. If you're feeling overwhelmed or unhappy or negative about your situations in life, try slowing down to alter your frame of mind and feel better about your life today.
Slowing down can be a difficult concept -- especially for Americans. We think the answer is to go more, do more, be more. But it's not! Relax. Slow down. Enjoy your life. You may find that slowing down in life is just what you need to feel better about your health, yourself, and your life both now and in the future.
