Dr. Wegayeu Gizaw was born and raised in the Southern part of Ethiopia (Sidama) on a coffee farm that his family owned. He moved to the United States in 2005 right after graduating from high school and attended Luzerne County Community College, where he received an Associates Degree in Surgical Technology. Dr. Gizaw continued in the medical field, studying Biochemistry at Misericordia University in 2011.

Upon receiving his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from New York Chiropractic College, Dr. Gizaw taught Anatomy and Physiology at Lackawanna College in Scranton Pennsylvania, then moved to Virginia to become Clinic Director at The Joint Chiropractic in Stafford.

Dr. Gizaw states that the best thing about being a chiropractor is the ability to see the effects of an adjustment on his patients’ quality of life, and making a difference in patients’ health and wellness goals.

In his spare time, he enjoys playing soccer and cruising around on his motorcycle.

As hobbies, Dr Sylla loves to play basketball and soccer. As a former high school athlete Dr Sylla experienced first-hand the importance of alternative care after suffering froma severe ankle injury that needed weeks to months of rehabilitation. This is where his passion for chiropractic began. Dr Sylla loves to help patients achieve their health goals by having them actively involved in their phase of care. Raised in Northern New England, along the wild frontier between the Green and White Mountains, Dr. Payton has always been connected to nature and the outdoors. He attended Fordham University, graduating in 1994 with a focus in Anthropology before moving on to study chiropractic at the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic.

Dr. Payton’s chiropractic journey began in Woodsville, NH, and has taken him to a variety of locations including Wells River, VT, Farmville, VA, Charlottesville, VA, and Quantico, VA. He recently joined the team at The Joint Chiropractic in December 2024, where he continues his passion for helping patients reach their health goals naturally, emphasizing teamwork in the healing process.

Outside of his practice, Dr. Payton is an active individual who enjoys exploring the natural world, playing a variety of musical instruments, and has a deep appreciation for history, culture, and architecture, particularly in the context of historical building methods.

A fun fact about Dr. Payton is that he can’t go without ketchup in his fridge, as it adds flavor to just about any dish. If he could host a dinner party with four notable people, living or dead (but not family), it would include Jesus of Nazareth, George Washington, Oglala Chief Crazy Horse (Tasunka Witco), and comedian Robin Williams.
