Dr. Jim Handzel is Clinic Director at The Joint Chiropractic’s Camelback location, where he has been for nearly a decade. He has received many accolades during the nearly 30 years he has been in practice. In 2018 he received Doctor of the year, out of 700+ offices from the The Joint Chiropractic Corporate. In 2024 Dr. Jim was named 1 of 3 best Chiropractics In Phoenix by Spine Specialists.

Dr. Jim grew up in Arizona with a engineer dad who graced him with the passion he now possesses, as well as, physical mechanical aptitude. His interest in health launched a focused path in life, which began his undergraduate studies where he received a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Chemistry. During this time he worked on technology in the field concerning Immunoparasitology. Later while working in the biotech industry Dr. Jim set forth to receive his Doctorate degree in Chiropractic at Palmer College of Chiropractic - West. There he earned the award of clinical excellence, resulting in being selected to go to Brazil to represent the school and the Chiropractic profession. This was an extreme honor because this took place during the world-wide expansion of the profession of Chiropractic.

Returning to the states, Dr. Jim moved to Southern California and acquired an established practice in Encinitas, California. Over the course of his ten year ownership, he expanded it to a diversified successful family based Wellness Practice. In 2006 he returned to Arizona to be closer to his family. Here he created an accomplished practice where he provided Acupuncture, Chiropractic care, Holistic Wellness, and Nutritional Counseling. For decades Dr. Jim has pursued extensive postgraduate studies in the acquisition of knowledge and mastering the application of numerous specialized Chiropractic techniques. These include but are not limited to : Palmer diversified, Gonstead, Activator, Thompson drop, Applied Kinesiology, Bio-Physics, Extremity Adjusting, Active Release, Nutrition Response Testing, and numerous other techniques.

Dr. Jim has boundless enthusiasm for showing and helping people to achieve healthy enjoyable lives. The protocols he delivers are groundbreaking to patients, and are derived from years of personal experience, painstaking and fervent research, as well as working with thousands of patients. Before pursuing a career in chiropractic, Dr. Koelling spent over a decade coaching college track and field. While he loved coaching and mentoring student-athletes, he felt called to a profession that would provide greater stability for his family while still allowing him to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
