Dr. Leigh Ann Jasinnas -- you can call her Dr. Leigh Ann -- joined The Joint Chiropractic family in 2019 with her arrival at the Jacksonville clinic locations. She is a graduate of Delaware with a bachelor’s degree in health behavior science and a minor in strength and conditioning. She received her masters degree in human nutrition and functional medicine from University of Western States, and her doctorate from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Florida.
“The thing I appreciate so much about being in this field is having the opportunity to engage with so many unique individuals on a daily basis,” Dr. Leigh Ann says. “The other thing is that I’m constantly learning. Every patient, every encounter, is an opportunity to expand my knowledge and help others.”
Prior to landing in Jacksonville, Dr. Leigh Ann worked in Wilmington, N.C., and the suburbs of Philadelphia, which is near where she was raised in the tri-state area.
In her spare time, she enjoys time with her husband and two children, as well as reading, learning to cook gluten-free recipes, spending time at the beach, “and traveling and exploring as much as I can.” They also have a chocolate Labrador named Bear.
With all her education, Dr. Leigh Ann has no doubts that she’s doing exactly what she should be doing. She remembers well the moment it became clear to her. “The first time I had a patient tell me that, because of chiropractic care, they could now play with their kids without pain,” she recalls. “That’s what it’s really all about, helping people live their lives fully with the people they love.”
Dr. Leigh Ann says one of the things she likes most about the Jacksonville locations of The Joint Chiropractic is the people. “Our team is incredible,” she says. “We all work together to serve the community, but equally important, we have fun doing it.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Leigh Ann says the one thing she always has in her refrigerator is her favorite tomato-based condiment: “You can never go wrong with ketchup.”
If she could bring any four people from history together for her dream dinner party, Dr. Leigh Ann would have a fairly eclectic group. “Martin Luther King Jr., because of his willingness to persevere through really tough situations for the benefit of all people,” she says. “Nostradamus because I’d love to pick his brain; Serena Williams because she’s an incredibly talented athlete and the epitome of work ethic; and Amelia Earhart because she is one of the toughest and bravest women I’ve ever heard of.”
They may well be impressed with some of Dr. Leigh Ann’s experiences as well. “I traveled and lived in Beijing, China, for six weeks to watch the 2008 Summer Olympics,” she said. “I also got to climb a section of the Great Wall of China. Definitely one of the coolest experiences I’ve had so far.”
Dr. Erika Odom became part of The Joint Chiropractic family of healthcare providers in 2019 to serve patients at Jacksonville Harbour and St. Johns Town Center clinic locations. A graduate of Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga., she received her bachelor’s of science degree in health science before getting a doctorate of chiropractic from Life University in Marietta, Ga.
Dr. Erika says the best thing about being in the chiropractic field is educating patients about their health. “I love helping people feel their absolute best,” she says.
Before coming to Jacksonville, Dr. Erika worked previously in the Georgia cities of Roswell and Jonesboro.
In her spare time, she enjoys exercising, volunteer work, traveling, and spending time with her family, which includes four children. Like her, Dr. Erika’s husband is a doctor of chiropractic but works as a licensed massage therapist.
“I knew chiropractic was my calling after I saw major health changes in my oldest daughter after taking her to a chiropractor,” she says. “I saw health challenges she had been experiencing resolve, and from that I knew I wanted to help others in that way.”
Dr. Erika really enjoys serving patients at two locations, as well as working alongside the staff. “The people are amazing -- the staff and the patients,” she says.
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Erika says the one thing she always has handy in her kitchen is spinach: “I use it in, or for, everything.”
If she could meet any four people from history, Dr. Erika says she would like to sit down at the same dinner table with musician Prince, actors Christopher Walken and Tom Hanks, and poet Maya Angelou.
“What is there to say, it’s Prince,” she says. “I’ve adopted Christopher Walken as my cool uncle, he just doesn’t know it yet. Tom Hanks is awesome, and Maya Angelou because of the inspiration she left the world with; she would have the best stories.”
The coolest thing Dr. Erika has done, she says, “was one of the most important things I’ve ever done: join the military. It was great to proudly serve my country as an enlisted member of the United States Air Force.”
Dr. Evan Welfare joined The Joint Chiropractic and its family of healthcare workers in 2019. A graduate for Florida State, he received a bachelor’s degree in English and studied major figures in Jewish American, American, British and Irish literature. He earned his doctorate of chiropractic from Life University.
“The best thing about being in the chiropractic field is helping people achieve their optimal level of functioning and quality of life by correcting spinal misalignments through the nervous and musculoskeletal systems,” Dr. Welfare says. “The other thing that’s great is having a sense of fulfillment at the end of the day, knowing I helped many people feel better.”
A product of Orange Park, Dr. Welfare previously worked there, Ocala, and Jacksonville.
In his spare time, Dr. Welfare enjoys playing and watching soccer, fishing, and going on nature walks with his wife, and any number of their five dogs. In addition, they also have a horse named Nevada, a donkey named Frances, and pigs named Jasmine and Mr. Pig.
“The moment I knew chiropractic was for me is when I sat down with my mentor one particular day to discuss changing careers,” Dr. Welfare says. “I taught English and mathematics as a tutor, and worked in retail for a few years. I wasn’t sure what I really wanted to do. My mentor just happens to be a chiropractor, so I thought he’d be a good option for seeking guidance. He gave me a sense of happiness knowing how many people he had helped in the past.
“I had been receiving chiropractic care since I was 14 years old, and felt it made me better before and after playing sports. So, as a result, 14 years later at the age of 28, I started researching chiropractic schools and learning more about it.”
Dr. Welfare has found a home at The Joint Chiropractic.
“I like working at The Joint because the atmosphere between the patients and staff is friendly, and the philosophy of chiropractic is understood to enhance the quality of one’s life, accommodating the specific needs of each individual.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Welfare says the one thing he always has in his kitchen are peppers “because they’re good for digestion.”
If he could travel through time to assemble a fantasy dinner party, Dr. Welfare says he would include D.D. Palmer, Pele, and Jackson Browne. “I would like to ask the creator of our chiropractic profession how it came to be and what inspired him,” he says. “I would include Pele, the world’s greatest soccer player, just because he’s the greatest -- though some may argue this. Jackson Browne is one of the greatest lyrical musicians of our time whose words have inspired me to admire lyrical poetry through song in a way I can relate my own life to. I would also include my best friend, Jahi, for never judging me or anyone else, even though I’ve had dinner with him countless times in my life.”
In dealing with Dr. Welfare, if you get the impression he is a man of compassion, you wouldn’t be wrong. The coolest thing he’s ever done, he says, was spend a summer taking care of a child with cerebral palsy and mental impairment.
“He could not walk and had trouble forming words when communicating, and could not enjoy activities the way other children could,” Dr. Welfare says. “I was able to carry him up the ladder to slide down the slide into the pool, to play basketball and soccer by pushing him in his wheelchair, and to join in on other fun activities with the other children. This happened one summer at the YMCA when I was a camp counselor in high school. This child’s name was Kyle, and everyone grew to love and accept him.”
