Meet The Doctors
Dr. Shih graduated from the National University of Health Sciences in Illinois in 1995 with a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. At National University, students are broadly educated and extensively trained in evidence based medicine to provide whole health healing to patients. During the course of study at National University, students study in an integrative learning environment alongside other natural health care focused professions. Students are well prepared to become first-contact, primary care physicians, ready to diagnose, treat and manage a wide range of patients and conditions.
Dr. Shih previously practiced at Advance Medical Rehabilitation Center, AMR in Loves Park Illinois for nearly the last 2 decades before joining The Joint Rockford.
Dr. Shih specializes in biomedical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and is experienced in physical therapy and rehabilitation programs. His passion is helping individuals with sports related injuries and when he’s not in the office, Dr. Shih is an avid golfer. In 2000, he was certified as a Chiropractic Golf Specialist in treating golf injuries!
My chiropractic education began when my father moved his family to Davenport, Ia to study chiropractic at Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1967, I was 3 years old. My earliest memories are afternoons spent in the student clinic, my dad practicing his setups and thrusts then sliding down the table as it rose to its upright position.
Dad passed in 2003 but his love of and devotion to chiropractic continues in my two sisters and me.
When I separated from the military I was in my mid-twenties, living in Italy, when I met an American couple who needed a crew member aboard their 48 foot sloop, Halcyon. This opened the door to a number of adventures at sea.
After Italy, I returned to the US and worked a number of jobs before going to live in Ireland where I worked as a mechanic, a delivery driver and a cemetery worker. It was while I was in Ireland that I decided to return to the US and, finally, further my education.
Back in the US, in St. Louis, Mo, I took undergraduate degrees in electronic engineering and engineering management before attending Logan College of Chiropractic where I earned a third undergraduate degree in human biology before earning my Doctor of Chiropractic in 2008.
With my diploma in hand, I took the certification exams in the United Kingdom and practiced with my older sister in Salt Coats, Scotland.
When my work visa expired, I returned to the US, to live with my younger sister in Crystal Lake, Il, and I am excited to be working at The Joint in Rockford and look forward to helping my patients attain, and maintain their health.
Dr. Shannon Gilmore is a 1998 graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic in Chesterfield, Missouri. She has also successfully completed a three-year post-graduate program in Chiropractic Neurology. This has given her another avenue of approach to complicated chiropractic patient problems.
Dr. Shannon’s love and appreciation for chiropractic began while working with her father, Dr. JJ Gilmore in his office in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland. She saw the amazing healing benefits of chiropractic care on patients of all ages. This inspired her to follow in her father’s footsteps. After graduation, she worked as an associate for a year in Island Lake, Illinois, and later a large family practice in St. Louis, Missouri before opening her own office in Schaumburg, Illinois in 2000. She also had the opportunity to work with her father in Verona, Italy until his passing in 2001.
Along with private practice, Dr. Gilmore worked from 2002-2015 at the college level in both medical assisting and massage therapy programs. She taught such subjects as anatomy, physiology, pathology, kinesiology, and medical terminology among others.
Dr. Gilmore has taken all of the learning experiences working in different countries, with a wide variety of students and patients and uses them to give the absolute best health care to her patients treating them with the individual care and respect that each person deserves. It will be her greatest pleasure to bring that same level of expertise and care to you and your family.
