Meet The Doctors

Dr. Anthony Pulice became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2022 when he began serving residents in the Allen Park area, where he continues doing the work he finds so gratifying as a chiropractor and clinic director.

“I find it extremely rewarding to share my knowledge and experiences with patients searching for a healthier lifestyle,” he says. “I feel one of the best things about being a doctor of chiropractic is witnessing the transformation we see in our patients. In my experience, it is not uncommon to have a patient say ‘I feel better already’ after their first adjustment.”

A product of the Midwest rich with outdoor activities that included lakes, parks, and mountain bike trails, Dr. P was very active as a young adult who regularly saw a chiropractor, which allowed him to continue with an active outdoors lifestyle.

That lifestyle continues today as his family, which includes a Great Dane named Sula, enjoys hiking, boating, four-wheeling, and sitting next to a campfire with friends. “Sula goes everywhere with us and gets a chiropractic adjustment by a veterinarian with special animal training,” he says.

Dr. P earned his doctorate from Life University College of Chiropractic in Marietta, Ga., after having received degrees in science and business at Schoolcraft College in Livonia.

“As a young boy I suffered a rib injury that resulted in scar tissue and adhesion,” he says. “This led to costochondritis and chest pain as a 21-year-old. After receiving weekly adjustments, the pain resolved, but I needed to know more about the power of a chiropractic adjustment.”

And what a power it is. “I was working for a wonderful chiropractic mentor in Redford in the 2000s and, as part of our reexamination, the last question was “Has anything changed that we haven’t talked about yet?’ The patient replied, ‘I used to pray for one day without pain, and now I get to pray for other reasons because I have many days without pain.’ I’ve never forgotten her words and appreciation for our office.”

Dr. P has worked previously in Westland, Redford, Dearborn, Warren, and Chesterfield.

In Case You Didn’t Know

If he could bring together any four people from history for his ideal dinner party, Dr. P would love to sit down with musicians Harry Chapin and Stevie Nicks. “Chapin was gone too soon but changed the world and how we look at it, and as far as Stevie Nicks is concerned, who doesn’t love her music?” he says. His other guests would include Dr. Sid E. Williams and Dr. Fred Gerretzen.

“Williams was president of Life University during the years of my study and was a great visionary who had wisdom and perspective that I understand on a higher level after two decades of private practice,” Dr. P says. “Gerretzen was a chiropractor and pioneer who founded The Joint Chiropractic and revolutionized the way we look at our health and well-being and brought the power of the chiropractic adjustment to a convenient, friendly, and affordable level.”

A book that has influenced Dr. P. is Forks Over Knives: The Plant-Based Way to Health by Gene Stone. “It’s a nice entry-level book on how to eat smarter and why consuming animal products is, in the long run, hard on your body and harder on the environment,” he says.

Dr. P says he always keeps his refrigerator stocked with fresh free-range chicken eggs from his father’s small chicken operation, as well as plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Dr. Gabriella Runco joined The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2022 when she began serving residents in suburban Detroit, where she continues doing the work she finds so rewarding in Allen Park.

“The best thing about being a chiropractor is the ability to help people retake control of their physical well-being,” she says. “Pain, discomfort, and dysfunction are a great hindrance to people’s lives. Being a chiropractor allows me to help these people improve their quality of life.

“I enjoy being in the chiropractic field because I feel I bring a more evidence-based approach to the profession. New research comes out regularly and I am always open to adapting and changing the way I practice that is consistent with the most up-to-date research.”

A product of Dearborn, Dr. Runco and her husband enjoy time together and with their pair of cats. She also likes playing the flute, keyboard, and drums when she has the opportunity. She earned her bachelor’s of science at University of Findlay (Ohio) before earning her doctorate of chiropractic at Life University.

“I have been under chiropractic care since I was a teenager and it has helped me immensely,’ she says. “Because of my experiences, I always had a positive view of chiropractic, but actually becoming a chiropractor didn’t cross my mind until I moved to Japan. While living there, I was a patient of a Japanese chiropractor and we talked a lot about chiropractic during my visits. At one point, he said, ‘You seem to be pretty knowledgeable and enthusiastic about chiropractic. Have you ever considered going to chiropractic school?’ It was like a light bulb turned on. I had never considered it before, but suddenly it made sense. About six months later, I moved back to the United States to attend chiropractic school.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. Runco says the four people from history she would include at her ideal dinner party are Supreme Court Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg, poet Maya Angelou, activist Angela Davis, and actor Emma Watson: “I would love to get the perspective of those who have been working towards gender equality for decades as well as the perspective of younger people, such as Emma Watson, who are newer to the movement but also working towards this goal.”

Ginsburg wrote the book that has meant so much to Dr. Runco, In My Own Words. “She was such an intelligent, fascinating person,” Dr. Runco says. “Reading this book, written by an icon of women’s rights, made me feel like I could accomplish anything in the face of adversity.”

The one food staple she always keeps stocked at home is rice: “Almost every meal my husband and I make contains rice,” she says.
