Dr. Jason Gemmer joined the family of local healthcare providers at The Joint Chiropractic in 2020 when he joined the staff of the Chandler-Ahwatukee clinic location. He focused on kinesiology en route to his bachelor’s degree in physical education at University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta Canada, and then got his doctorate of chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic West Campus in San Jose, Calif.
“The most gratifying part of being in this field is being able to help patients enjoy a better quality of life through conservative care without surgery or medication,” he says. “I love networking with like-minded healthcare practitioners for the overall health of the patients.”
Dr. Jason, as his patients call him, grew up in Las Vegas while also spending his summers in Tucson with his family. He worked in San Jose before settling into the Chandler area.
He has a pitbull/bull terrier mix named Loki and a dalmadoodle named Beefie. In his spare time, Dr. Jason enjoys tennis, martial arts, boxing, and yoga.
His involvement with athletes led to his involvement in chiropractic. “I was a strength and conditioning coach for amateur and professional boxers and mixed martial arts fighters,” he says. “After being part of many injuries for my athletes, I knew I wanted to be able to offer them a holistic approach to performance.”

Dr. Jason says the one thing that he always keeps stocked at his home are blueberries. “They’re filled with antioxidants, and they’re yummy,” he says.
If he could bring together any four characters from history for the dinner party of his dreams, he would send invitations to boxer Mike Tyson, Western hero Doc Holliday, basketball player Michael Jordan, and martial arts icon Bruce Lee. “I would include Tyson and Jordan because of my love for boxing and basketball, and Doc Holliday because he’s my favorite character from the old westerns. I would love to talk to Bruce Lee so that I could pick his brain on how to be awesome.”
Dr. Jason drove a limo in Las Vegas, and it was one of the most interesting things he has done. “I drove for 10 years, and in that time, I got to meet some very inspirational individuals,” he says.
“The people that I drove for inspired me to reach for my dreams and goals. From CEOs of Fortune 500 companies to professional athletes, their advice to fight my own fight is what made me pursue my dreams and become a doctor of chiropractic.”
Dr. Rafic Alaouie became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2021 when he began serving residents in the suburban Phoenix area, where he continues doing the work he finds so rewarding.
“I love helping patients use their body’s natural ability to heal,” he says. “It’s especially gratifying to help people who have exhausted all other avenues.”
Dr. Alaouie is married to “an amazing vegan chef” and enjoys photography, running, and reading: “It keeps my mind focused but relaxes me at the same time.”
He worked previously in Detroit, Mich., after getting a doctorate of chiropractic from Life University in Marietta, Ga. Prior to that, he got a degree in biology at Wayne State University in Motown.
He knew chiropractic was his calling when he saw the results of his work: “I was amazed at how people turned around their health without drugs or surgery,” he says.
That validation was furthered with one of his most memorable experiences. “We were able to help a baby of just a few months old avoid tubes in her ears because of a few adjustments that we made”

If Dr. Alaouie could bring together any four people from history to a roundtable, he would invite physicist Albert Einstein, Indian activist Mahatma Gandhi, artist Vincent Van Gough, and Apple CEO Steve Jobs: “These are all amazing minds who have changed the world forever.”
One of the most influential books that Dr. Alaouie has read is Sapiens. “That book really tells the story of how we have evolved into what we have become,” he says. “It’s a great read.”
Some of the best advice he has received is to listen to others -- learn by listening. It has led him to dispense some quality advice of his own: “Never underestimate your full potential."
Dr. Donald Bernard graduated from Logan University in 1993 and started working with The Joint Chiropractic in 2017. He loves the knowledge he gains through being a chiropractor and also deeply enjoys helping people on a daily basis. He knew chiropractic was his calling when he broke his pelvis in a car accident before going into his senior year of high school and his neighbor, who was a chiropractor, corrected his spine without drugs or surgery.
He has a wife named Trisha and a son named Devon who is one years old. They also have four dogs, named King Louie, Mr. BoJangles, Mia Monkey and Molly McHee, and has one cat. When Dr. Bernard is not working, he loves to golf, work out, and relax with his dogs. The coolest thing he’s ever done is watch his sister win a medal in the 2010 Olympics.
