Dr. Michael Ward is a North Carolina Triad native who worked as a professional bodywork therapist since 2004 and as a yoga practitioner since 2001. He initially graduated from UNC-G, completed the professional massage therapy program from GTCC a few years later, attended Daoist Traditions College for Chinese Medical Arts, and most recently graduated from National University of Health Sciences with his Doctor of Chiropractic degree.
As an evidence-based natural physician rooted in functional medicine and yoga therapy, Dr. Michael treats the whole patient, considering nutrition and lifestyle choices to determine root-causes of imbalance, pain, and disease. Due to his extensive Hatha Yoga background, Dr. Michael provides unique yoga-integrated approaches to treatment and rehabilitation. Fifteen years of neuromuscular massage therapy trained his hands to put patients at ease while releasing myofascial tension. This diverse background yields an integration of western and eastern approaches to acupuncture and monofilament needling. Above all else, Michael is dedicated to helping patients embrace their limitations as opportunities to transform and grow. His guiding principle is to help patients navigate the inevitabilities of body pains that need not lead to suffering.
On the home front, Michael enjoys time with his husband Roger, their champion miniature schnauzer dogs, playing saxophones, healthy gourmet & pellet grill smoker cooking, international travel, and a deep appreciation for the arts in general. He loves practicing yoga in nature, growing his own food, camping, boating, swimming, hiking, reading, and is a huge Star Trek fan.
In a recent Consumer Reports study, chiropractic outperformed prescription medication, deep-tissue massage, yoga, pilates, and over-the-counter medication therapies, in treating back pain. 1
