Chiropractic Advice for the Perfect Walk

You may have heard that going for a daily walk is great for your health. Getting in at least 10,000 steps each day can lead to a pound of weight lost after a week. You can't just head outside to walk without any tips in mind. The perfect walk that improves your fitness while also being free from pain is possible with some chiropractic advice. 

Choose the Right Shoes

A good pair of shoes will do wonders for your walking abilities. If you want to prevent pain and aches in your feet and legs, then choosing a sturdy pair that provides comfort is key. They should not be too big or too small. A pair with cushioned soles that absorb impact is also ideal. 

Find a Cushioned Track

Sure, you could walk around the neighborhood or along any concrete track, but it would be hard on your body. A cushioned track is ideal because it absorbs some of the shock and isn't as harsh on your joints. You may be able to find it at local parks or at a recreation center. If not, a dirt path or even grass may be a valid choice over concrete. 

Stay Hydrated

Hydration is key in any effective workout. You want to drink plenty of water before, during, and after your workout to keep your joints flexible and prevent stiffness as well as limit chances of injury. Avoid any caffeinated or sugary drinks and stick with water only. 

Alternate Flat and Slanted Terrain Days

You shouldn't stick to one type of terrain if you really want to make the most of your walking sessions. Instead, alternate between walking on flat terrain and one with an incline so you can get in good workouts while also keeping the spine aligned. Incline paths will be harder on the body but will provide a great workout for your legs. 

See a Chiropractor

Before you start a walking routine it's important to see a chiropractor. You want to be sure your body is free from joint restrictions or subluxations that could cause pain and problems while you walk. The chiropractor may also have further advice on how best to walk for exercise with little pain.

Get your steps in daily with some chiropractic advice in mind and you'll have a stronger body in no time.
