Dr. Rodney K. Morris joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2020 when he became part of the team serving the Nashville area at the Bellevue and Clarksville clinic locations.
“The best thing about being a chiropractor, for me, is using my hands to make people feel better,” he says. “I also love meeting new people and I love to help them feel better and function better. I love to educate my patients and get to know them better. I think interaction is also key to building trust between the doctor and the patient.”
Dr. Morris worked previously in Arlington after growing up in Killeen, Tex. “My dad was a medical doctor for almost 40 years and I used to clean his office,” he says. “I never wanted to be in the health field for that reason. I saw first-hand how my dad treated his patients. He treated them very well and they really loved him, but he spent many hours at work and didn’t spend much time at home with his family. I never wanted to be like that, and my heart is in what I do for my patients. I love what I do.”
In his spare time, Dr. Morris loves running trails and exercising in the gym or playing tennis. He also enjoys traveling. “My ultimate dream is to start a couple of clinics in the U.S. -- and even outside the country -- and do mission trips every year so that people do not have to pay for services and can receive treatment for free,” he says.
He earned his doctorate from Parker University in Dallas. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in theology from Oakwood University in Huntsville, Ala., and a master’s in social work from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Mich.
Dr. Morris says that a career exam online initially pointed him to chiropractic. “I really didn’t know what it was then,” he says. “I talked to my dad and another chiropractor who told me to tour Parker University. After interviewing me, they accepted me and thought I would do well as a chiropractor; I really didn’t see it then, but things are very clear now.”
One of his more memorable moments included treating a patient who could barely walk from low back pain. “I gave her an adjustment using only drops and instructed her to go home and ice her low back,” he says. “About a month later, I saw her again and she was back to normal and not in any pain. Years go by and she reminds me of that story. Those moments remind me how much I really impacted someone’s life, and even though I may never see them again, I always do my best because people always remember when they were treated well.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
If he could sit down to dinner with a collection of anyone from history, Dr. Morris would love to chew the fat with Jesus Christ and King Solomon, the son of David, as well as NBA legend Michael Jordan and neurosurgeon pioneer Ben Carson, who had a second career as the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the Trump administration.
“The coolest thing I’ve ever done is travel to Peru on a mission trip in which I raised funds from about three different churches,” he says. “During my trip, it helped me to understand that chiropractic is a ministry of healing that I need to use to glorify the Lord.”
The one thing he always keeps stocked in his refrigerator is juice: “I like it when I’m sitting down relaxing or watching a movie.”
Dr. Rowen S. Pfeifer became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2019, and in 2021 became a franchise owner to serve residents in Belleview and Jackson.
“The best thing about being a chiropractor is helping patients regain their health and decrease their pain,” he says. “I love the virtually constant positive feedback we receive from patients on a daily basis. The response they give with the adjustment of almost every area is extremely rewarding.”
Dr. Rowen, as his patients call him, has practiced in the greater Nashville area since 1987. He grew up in Wisconsin loving sports and having the freedom to explore. He and his wife of more than four decades have two adult children and a bijon who loves to chase squirrels and deer in the yard. He likes to relax through music, which includes playing guitar, drums, and singing classic rock songs. In addition to working around the yard, he enjoys water skiing, snow skiing, and springboard and cliff diving.
Dr. Rowen graduated cum laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic, where he received his doctorate, after attending two years of pre-med at Middle Tennessee State. “I learned about chiropractic while searching for the principles of health and healing,” he says. “I ended up with an issue that required chiropractic care, the issue resolved, and a few years later I knew I wanted to be a chiropractor.”
One of Dr. Rowen’s most memorable successes as a chiropractor took place when he was caring for a family who had a son who was a 12-year-old bed-wetter. “They had tried many options, without success,” he says. “After a short time of receiving adjustments, the bed-wetting stopped. He stayed under maintenance care for years. At age 18, he was a passenger in a van that flipped over resulting in trauma to the low back and a return of the bed wetting. We saw him more frequently for a short time and again resolved the issue.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
If he could bring together any four people from history for his ideal dinner party, Dr. Rowen would love to sit down with Albert Einstein, Jesus Christ, and Biblical heroes Moses and Abraham. “Talking science with Einstein would be amazing, but talking to the others about faith, commitment, love, and how to hear the Father’s still small voice would be life-changing,” he says.
Dr. Rowen says the coolest thing he has ever done was step out and shake things up. “I left a dead-end job at age 20 to play what’s now known as classic rock ‘n’ roll full-time on the road for three years,” he says. “Until then, I had never traveled more than an hour from where I was born. The experience helped me grow up and learn a lot about myself.”
The items that Dr. Rowen always keeps stocked in his kitchen are organic fruits and vegetables. “They’re always on hand at home so that I can make fruit smoothies and huge salads that I enjoy most every day of the week,” he says.
Dr. Rex Stevens joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2023 when he became part of the team at the Bellevue clinic, where he does the rewarding work of helping people as their local healthcare provider.
“It provides an opportunity to explore different solutions to chronic ailments patients have that are imposing limitations on their lives as a result,” he says. “I value the chance to practice the 'art of individualized treatment,' meaning the ability to recognize that each individual will respond uniquely to a treatment. The ability to determine quickly what works best for each one is an incredible challenge each day.”
Dr. Rex, as his patients call him, is originally from the Silicon Valley in California. “I grew up in a very medical-based model that failed me over and over in solving chronic ailments like irritable bowel, acne, allergies, and asthma,” he says. “It was through those failures that I was open to alternative routes for change and to restore my health.”
Dr. Rex’s wife, Molly Stevens, is also a chiropractor and specializes in pregnancy and pediatrics. They have two boys and two girls who are very active in athletic programs. The family has a golden retriever named Buster.
In his spare time, Dr. Rex enjoys sports, music, travel, and any fitness challenge. “I just love being outdoors.”
After earning a bachelor of science degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where he studied neurology, Dr. Rex earned a Doctorate of Chiropractic at Parker College in Dallas, Texas.
“I had a chiropractor assist me in rehabbing a shoulder that I had previously been told would need surgery,” he says. “I have since applied those strategies to other areas of my body successfully – a torn medial meniscus in my knee, labral tear in my hip, and rotator cuff tear in my shoulder.”
Dr. Rex likes the overall wellness his patients experience from chiropractic care. “I'm always amazed by the number of times patients let you know how well they responded not only to the primary complaint they had when they came in, but also the secondary and tertiary complaints they never mentioned that were resolved over the course of treatment.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Sardines can always be found in Dr. Rex’s kitchen. “They’re an absolute super food for me,” he says. “Anytime my energy is low or I feel famished, sardines always reboot my system.”
If he could plan the ideal dinner party including four famous guests, Dr. Rex would invite:
Jesus Christ - “I would love to feel his energy, intently listen to him tell a story, and perhaps have a little of his wisdom wear off on me.”
Martin Luther King Jr - “I would sit in awe of his voice, his passion, and his message.”
Marcus Aurelius - “I’d like to be able to truly sense his tolerance, temperance, and self-control.”
Mother Teresa - “I could feel again what it’s like to be in the presence of someone who dedicated their life to humbly serve by blessing others.”
One of the coolest experiences of Dr. Rex’s life was bungee jumping off a bridge on Victoria Island going head first into the water. “Sometimes you just have to take that leap in life, no matter how intimidating it may be.”
A meaningful book that Dr. Rex has read is Falling Upwards by Richard Rohr. “It’s an incredible encouragement on a ‘wisdom approach’ to the second half of life.”
The name he would give his autobiography is The Dead Sea, “about a physical drowning incident with my sons paralleling a myriad of emotional drownings throughout life that have shaped my being.”
One of Dr. Rex’s favorite pieces of wisdom came from a basketball coach: “Never let your successes go to your head and never let your failures go to your heart.”
Dr. Rex likes to inspire lifelong learning. Two of his favorite quotes are: “It's what you learn after you know it all that counts” from John Wooden and “The problem in this life isn't what we don't know, it's the stuff we know for sure that just ain't so” from Mark Twain.
