Dr Kantara has been in the healthcare field for over 30 years. After working as an EMT/Paramedic in Mobile Intensive Care Unit and level 1 trauma Center, Dr Kantara discovered Chiropractic and without hesitation made a leap into holistic medicine. He received his doctorate in chiropractic from Texas Chiropractic College.
“Being able to take a person who suffered for years because they were told there are no other options and navigate their body back to better health, without drugs or surgeries, is very humbling,” says Dr Kantara. “Watching someone who was skeptical about chiropractic become a believer never gets old. That look in their eyes, the smile on their face, the amazement and appreciation in their heart is phenomenal. Very few professions delivers that kind of impact.“
Dr Kantara has a 10 year old son who is into Karate and near receiving his blackbelt. Their dog Kwincy, is a very sweet nine-year old maltipoo that they adopted two years ago and has been a great addition to the family.
Dr Kantara was born and raised overseas. He came into the US at the age of 19 to build a foundation and pursue an education in the medical field. The Houston suburban area has been his home ever since. He enjoys reading and studying leadership and personal development, traveling, movies, and volunteering in the community. Dr Kantara used to be a runner but now is focused on weight training and fitness kickboxing.
God’s gift to us is an abundance of water, says Dr Kantara. It is an absolute necessity for anything on this planet, from a balanced climate to the function of human body. “Water is essential for life and for living in optimal health.”
Giving the opportunity to share a meal with any four characters from history, Dr Kantara says his perfect dinner party would include the Pope so he can be blessed; mother Teresa so he can be humbled; a US soldier so he is always reminded of those who sacrifice for something greater than themselves; and Robin Williams so he would never forget that laughter is the best medicine.
Dr Kantara teamed up with The Joint Cross Creek because he believes in “alignment before assignment. Who you work with is more important that where you work, says Dr Kantara. “Getting to know the owners has been an honor and an opportunity to work together to help improve quality of life for many who need it but can’t afford the more complex clinics.”
Doctor Kelsy DeMelo graduated from Texas Chiropractic College in April of 2019, and she likes to be called Dr. Kelsy by her patients and colleagues at The Joint Cross Creek. As a student at Texas Chiropractic College she has excelled as a teaching assistant in the Department of Anatomical Sciences. She has served in roles of leadership as a chair of the Ethics committee as well as president of the Chiropractic Student Nutrition Club
Prior to Chiropractic College, Dr. Kelsy grew up in Boston, MA, where she still visits family often. She is a graduate of Simmons College in Boston, MA with a Bachelors in Science, majoring in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition. Dr. Kelsy has worked at New York University in cardiology, and as a fitness coach at Equinox, providing group and individual fitness training to a wide spectrum of clientele.
Dr. Kelsy lived in New York City for about five years and worked as a personal trainer. While personal training, she referred many of her clients to a Sports Medicine Chiropractor when they would get injured. One day on a whim, she stopped by his office and was so inspired – “I could do this!” she thought… And she did!
“The best thing about being a Chiropractor is watching patients get better and return to wellness after being in pain.” Dr. Kelsy enjoys helping her patients return to their sports and activities of daily living after being unable to while in pain.
Dr. Kelsy thoroughly enjoys working in the wellness model that The Joint provides to its patients, and making health a “lifestyle” for everyone she meets. “The Joint Cross Creek has a great team, and I love working in the Chiropractic wellness environment that is cultivated here.”
In her spare time, Dr. Kelsy is also a nationally qualified Figure and Bikini competitor with the National Physique Committee. She enjoys hiking with her rescued pitbull, Tig and cuddling up with her black cat, Nora on the couch to relax. On her days off you will likely find her either in the kitchen baking, watching true crime documentaries, or with her nose buried in a book.
Despite her bubbly demeanor with her patients, she is a self-proclaimed “introvert” and enjoys downtime very much! Dr. Kelsy has also qualified for the New York City marathon in 2013, and grew up dancing classical ballet.
Dr. Kelsy aspires to continue her specialization in the fields of Chiropractic, Sports Medicine, Nutrition, and a variety of Sports Therapies. She is supplementing her education with a Master’s in Human Performance at University of Houston – Clear Lake and in an Acupuncture certification at Parker Chiropractic College in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Gary Chen is a recent graduate of Texas Chiropractic College class of 2019 back in August. It was a smooth transition as he studied Kinesiology and Exercise Science at the University of Houston. Dr. Chen was born in Boston but has lived in Houston since the year 2000 and considers Houston home.
He was first inspired to pursue his career in Chiropractic after learning more about the profession while receiving treatment after a car accident. He realized that he could help so many people that don’t know much about the profession. After a tragic near- drowning experience in his early twenties, Dr. Chen realized he needed to push himself to achieve his dreams. It was after this that he applied to Texas Chiropractic College.
Dr. Chen is an avid tennis player and competed back in high school and planned to in college but unfortunately tore his rotator cuff. He states that if he had known about Chiropractic that he would have been able get help for his shoulder to heal much quicker. He was also a state finalist back in 2014 where his team was 2 points from winning the tournament and getting a bid to the national tournament.
Dr. Chen says “The best thing about my job is the smile and satisfaction I see in patients’ faces when they get and feel so much better. I can really sense the gratitude from them and it really makes my day.”
