4 Chiropractors and Physical Therapists Tell Us the Ergonomic Desk Chairs They Use
Dr. Kevin Lees, director of chiropractic operations for The Joint Chiropractic, recently contributed to a MarketWatch article exploring the ergonomic desk chairs health professionals actually use themselves. Drawing on his clinical expertise, Dr. Lees emphasized the importance of proper posture and lumbar support, noting that “the best chair is the one that supports your body in a neutral, balanced position throughout the day.” His insights help readers understand what to look for in a chair that promotes spinal health and prevents everyday discomfort.

Are you looking to be more comfortable at your 9-5?
Are you truly comfortable in your office chair? Does it do an adequate job of minimizing your aches and pains?
“ For many of us, the answer may be no. An ergonomic chair, according to our sources, is one that supports good posture and comfort, and avoids giving your muscles any issues. “The chair should support the spine, legs, and arms without creating pressure points or added musculoskeletal stress,” says Dr. Kevin Lees, Director of Chiropractic Operations at The Joint Chiropractic.
And Dr. Jet Jackson, owner and chiropractor at 100% Chiropractic says: “Unlike traditional chairs, ergonomic chairs encourage proper alignment of the neck, back and hips,” adding that ergonomics can specifically “reduce strain on the body during prolonged sitting.”
To get some expert advice on the topic, we spoke to chiropractors, physical therapists, professional ergonomists and more — to find out what they personally sit on to support their body.

How does an ergonomic chair help the body? What else should I know?
To ensure the best use out of your chair, Dr. Lees gives the following instructions:
“The chair should allow the person’s feet to rest flat on the floor, supporting the legs’ weight. The seat should be deep enough not to create pressure on the back of the thigh or cut into the legs or back of the knees. Cushioning should be firm enough to provide support and breathable material.”
“While we know budgets can be tight, this is an investment in your health,” Dr. Bellingar says. “Look for a chair with warranties – a good ergonomic chair should last you for years.”
And lastly, Dr. Landis says “an ergonomic chair is key in supporting proper postures, specifically alignment of your spine and supporting your extremities.”
“Just like you invest in a quality mattress for sleeping, invest in a great chair to keep you feeling good during the workday,” Landis advises.
