The Joint Testimonial: My First Visit
By Chris Brown
Shortly after my nearest chiropractor, The Joint Chiropractic, had opened for the day, I walked in for my first session rubbing a painfully sore neck. I wasn't sure what to expect, as it was my first time in one of The Joint's 500-plus nationwide locations, but I found caring relief that was more immediately impactful than I thought possible.
Reasons for Going
While chiropractic is beneficial without active pain, my final push, like many new patients, was due to an injury. I'd woken with a stiff and hurting neck after working hours in a less-than-optimal, seated position the day prior. I was unable to move my neck without sharp pain and my muscles felt like one giant knot from my neck to my mid-back. The following day, while my neck had minimal improvement, the pain and limited mobility send me seeking medical aid at The Joint.
Not to mention, I had badly twisted my ankle a month prior and figured it could use an examination as well.
The Joint Chiropractic Session
The morning of my session I didn't listen to the standard pre-session advice of a light breakfast, but instead washed down a large chicken and pesto panini with a 20-ounce coffee. Since The Joint is by walk-in only, I was conveniently able to avoid rushing with a full belly and let some digestion occur before entering.
After I completed detailed medical paperwork, the doctor evaluated my spinal alignment. He explained on a skeletal model how my offset neck vertebra was causing swelling and nerve pain. The impacted nerves, he said, were tensing my back muscles and worsening the situation. The chiropractor carefully manipulated my back and neck with satisfying pops and cracks. Additionally, he spent time working on my ankles to ensure that healing was correctly aligned. All in all the session was efficient, but care focused.
Upon sitting up, I noticed an immediate difference in neck mobility, although I still had pain in my upper back and neck. The doctor advised that inflammatory pain might continue into the following day. He prescribed a regimen of icing and a personalized adjustment follow-up schedule. As the day progressed, my pain started subsiding, as the chiropractor predicted it would with reduced swelling, and my range of motion continued increasing. My response was not atypical, as a reviewer of The Joint location I visited wrote that his chiropractor managed to, "pop a thing in my back that has been bothering me for the last 20 years." The reviewer concluded that his back hadn't, "felt this good since I was in my 20s."
The Next Day
The morning after my session, I noticed even greater improved range of motion in my neck. My back was sore, but turning my neck didn't seem to aggravate it further, as it had previously. It was clear the chiropractor had resolved the core issue and any pain was a remnant of the initial injury. Even my ankles felt more flexible, and less tight.
