Dr. Katie Stewart originates from a small town in Ramona, California but was raised in San Diego, California. Dr. Stewart received her bachelor in kinesiology (the study of the mechanics of body movements) from San Diego State University in 2012 and has an emphasis in pre-physical therapy. She then proceeded to graduate with her doctorate from Palmer Chiropractic West in San Jose, California in 2016.
After graduation, Dr. Stewart’s first job was in Los Gatos and The Joint Chiropractic in Point Loma, California. In April of 2019, she joined The Joint Chiropractic team here in Arizona. Dr. Stewart loves to work with patients of all ages and her favorite thing about the chiropractic field is seeing the result of patients feeling better and healing quicker than they ever have in the past.
Since her graduation, Dr. Stewart has learned to tailor her care towards the specific needs of her patients. Whether this is sciatic pain, arthritis, jaw, hip or neck pain, Dr. Stewart strives to help her patients optimize wellness and happiness. Dr. Stewart finds her passion in treating expecting mothers.
Dr. Stewart is happily married to her husband John and has one daughter named Keira. The one item in Dr. Stewart’s fridge that she cannot live without is shredded cheese, she says it taste good on everything! When asked what the coolest thing Dr. Stewart has ever done and why, she says “visiting England, London, Italy, Austria and Germany for six weeks. It was cool because we saw so many unbelievable cathedrals and history. It is amazing how they renovate art and buildings to make them look so new but are thousands of years old. We saw the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Venice Beach, learned about glass blowing for jewelry. All I ate for about a week was gelato”.
Dr. Rafic Alaouie became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2021 when he began serving residents in the suburban Phoenix area, where he continues doing the work he finds so rewarding.
“I love helping patients use their body’s natural ability to heal,” he says. “It’s especially gratifying to help people who have exhausted all other avenues.”
Dr. Alaouie is married to “an amazing vegan chef” and enjoys photography, running, and reading: “It keeps my mind focused but relaxes me at the same time.”
He worked previously in Detroit, Mich., after getting a doctorate of chiropractic from Life University in Marietta, Ga. Prior to that, he got a degree in biology at Wayne State University in Motown.
He knew chiropractic was his calling when he saw the results of his work: “I was amazed at how people turned around their health without drugs or surgery,” he says.
That validation was furthered with one of his most memorable experiences. “We were able to help a baby of just a few months old avoid tubes in her ears because of a few adjustments that we made”
In Case You Didn’t Know
If Dr. Alaouie could bring together any four people from history to a roundtable, he would invite physicist Albert Einstein, Indian activist Mahatma Gandhi, artist Vincent Van Gough, and Apple CEO Steve Jobs: “These are all amazing minds who have changed the world forever.”
One of the most influential books that Dr. Alaouie has read is Sapiens. “That book really tells the story of how we have evolved into what we have become,” he says. “It’s a great read.”
Some of the best advice he has received is to listen to others -- learn by listening. It has led him to dispense some quality advice of his own: “Never underestimate your full potential."
Dr. Donald Bernard graduated from Logan University in 1993 and started working with The Joint Chiropractic in 2017. He loves the knowledge he gains through being a chiropractor and also deeply enjoys helping people on a daily basis. He knew chiropractic was his calling when he broke his pelvis in a car accident before going into his senior year of high school and his neighbor, who was a chiropractor, corrected his spine without drugs or surgery.
He has a wife named Trisha and a son named Devon who is one years old. They also have four dogs, named King Louie, Mr. BoJangles, Mia Monkey and Molly McHee, and has one cat. When Dr. Bernard is not working, he loves to golf, work out, and relax with his dogs. The coolest thing he’s ever done is watch his sister win a medal in the 2010 Olympics.
Dr. Mistie Ahrens became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2020 when she began serving residents in the Mesa area to do the work she finds so rewarding.
She is a fan of the “ripple effect” that chiropractic has, that patients who leave her office feeling good and then “go out and spread that good feeling after their adjustment. ... It’s wonderful that chiropractic provides patients an alternative to a general practitioner who relies on prescribing medication or surgery, which should be the last option rather than the first.“
Dr. Mistie, as her patients call her, is a product of Cleveland University in Kansas City, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in human biology and a doctorate of chiropractic. She loves teaching and is an anatomy and physiology professor at Paradise Valley Community College.
Born and raised in Colorado, she enjoys the outdoors in a myriad of pursuits, such as hiking, fishing, tracking, camping, and gardening. She also likes reading, listening to music, and attending concerts.
Dr. Mistie says she knew chiropractic was her calling all the way back in her childhood. “I was always ‘popping’ friends and family when I was a kid, so I’ve always known it was my calling,” she says. “It took me longer to get here because I was a single mom doing it all, but I also wanted to be a good role model for my son and follow my dream. I started in accounting -- I love numbers -- but I didn’t want to do that forever.”
She is grateful that she followed through with her passion: “I love working with the patients and staff in all The Joints I work in. I’ve always loved the quote from BJ Palmer, the developer of chiropractic, who said ‘the power that made the body, heals the body.’”

Dr. Mistie says the one thing she always keeps in her kitchen is mushrooms: “They’re a great source of Vitamin D, and they are so versatile -- you can use them in a variety of dishes.”
If she could bring together any four people from history for the dinner party of her dreams, she would include Tupac Shakur, Sir Isaac Newton, Johnny Depp, and Bob Marley. “I would include Tupac for his street knowledge and philosophy,” she says, “Isaac Newton for his theories and intelligence, Johnny Depp for his eccentric personality, and Bob Marley for a different perspective on life and a good vibe.”
She says the coolest thing she has done, besides being a mom, was a moment she shared with her son: “We went swimming in the Atlantic Ocean, in open water, with wild sharks.”
Dr. Thahn Pham, D.C., was born in Vietnam and came to the United States when he was a young boy. He grew up in southern California. He joined The Joint Chiropractic family in September 2020.
He attended California State University – Long Beach and earned a Bachelor Science degree in Biology. He earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic. He has worked in clinics since 1998.
He enjoys caring for patients and assisting in their desire to achieve optimal wellness and health. He is excited to be working for The Joint Chiropractic offering affordable and convenient chiropractic care.
