Why the Importance of Prevention is at the Heart of Chiropractic Care

In chiropractic care, one of the core values that are common between all chiropractors is prevention. Specifically, chiropractors want to instill a certain mindset in their patients to help show them that there is a way to prevent injury, pain, and discomfort in the musculoskeletal system.

Chiropractors also know that if an injury occurs in their patients then treatment has to be initiated rather quickly. The larger the gap in time that passes between the initial injury, and the seeking of treatment, the higher the likelihood that more serious interventions need to be put in place to treat the injury. This is exactly why maintaining a preventative attitude when it comes to musculoskeletal health can help patients avoid injury and achieve maximum range of motion and functionality of the musculoskeletal system.

Chiropractic professionals hold prevention to an extremely high standard in the realm of chiropractic care. In the United States especially, there is an overwhelming focus on treatment rather than prevention. So many Americans wait for health problems to develop and treat them accordingly rather than modifying their behaviors to prevent health problems from arising in the first place. This is common with conditions like heart disease and cancer, but musculoskeletal health problems are no different.

Many of us spend our lives with behaviors that can contribute to poor musculoskeletal health outcomes. Wearing flat shoes that do not support our feet, slouching while sitting in chairs, ducking our heads while using technological devices, and so many more behaviors can result in serious problems down the road. However, these are all behaviors that can be changed to enforce a level of protection in our bodies and promote good musculoskeletal health throughout our lives. We can get hoes with more support, we can work on our posture, and we can adjust how we use technology to care for our bodies.

The guidance of a chiropractor can be an extremely valuable asset in our efforts to prevent injury and harmful musculoskeletal conditions. We can also do some research on the internet or consult various different publications and other resources. The power of prevention is attainable for everyone.
