Get In Shape Without a Gym Membership

Getting and staying fit can be challenging. There are only so many hours in a day. For some people, joining a gym is ideal. They pop in at a convenient time and get in a workout using the provided equipment. But this doesn't work for everyone. Gym memberships can be expensive. There may not be one located within a reasonable commute and many people simply don't have the time to go to a gym on a regular basis. What to do? Here are some ways that can help you get in shape without ever setting foot in a gym.
Walking is one of the best forms of exercise there is and it's also a means of transportation. Don't have time to schedule exercise? Walk to places you would normally drive to. Choose places that are reasonably close enough to make walking feasible, but get out there and hoof. You'll be getting excellent cardiovascular exercise as well as strengthening your legs and lower body. You'll also save on gas and not have to worry about parking. The pace of walking also allows you to take a look at your surroundings which can be great for mental health. Leave the car in the driveway and use those legs.
Use the Stairs
It's so easy to walk up to the elevator and push the call button. But if you're only going up to the second or third floor, why not take the stairs? Climbing stairs is great cardio and will certainly shore up those leg muscles. The elevator is still useful for accessing higher floors, but take advantage of the built-in workout available to you. Coming down the stairs uses the legs in a different way so you get some variety in your exercise.
Use Household Objects
You don't have to pump iron to tone muscles. You can make use of household items. They don't have to be heavy, anything that weighs more than a pound can work. Use them to do curls or hold them while doing squats. Even carrying them from room to room is good exercise. You can also use furniture. Do repetitions sitting and standing with a kitchen chair. With a little creativity, you can find all kinds of exercises using everyday items in your home.
Exercise is vital to health. That's common knowledge. But gyms are not for everyone. But with a little effort and creativity, you can get excellent workouts without joining a gym. When people compliment you on how toned you are, think of the fun it will be to tell them you never go to the gym.
