Meet The Doctors

Dr. Spencer Eaton, D.C. is a Chiropractor at Prescott Valley

Dr. Spencer Eaton joined The Joint Chiropractic in 2022 when he became part of the team at the Prescott Valley clinic, where he does the rewarding work of helping people as their local healthcare provider.

“The best thing about being in the chiropractic field is having the opportunity to help patients achieve their health goals naturally,” he says. “It’s rewarding to share and learn from the wonderful people we get to interact with on a daily basis.”

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, but raised in Tucson, he earned his doctorate from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, after getting a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Dr. Eaton had his own practice with his chiropractor wife in Las Vegas before moving to Prescott, where they share their home with “crazy dog, Sophia.” In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, hiking, “and trying to play the guitar and mandolin.”

‘I grew up in a chiropractic household -- my stepfather is a chiropractor -- and would talk to friends in high school and in the Navy about chiropractic,” he says. “I knew at that time it was the profession for me.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

Dr. Eaton says the one must-have in his kitchen is coffee creamer: “I can be grumpy if I don’t get my coffee in the morning.”

If he could bring together any four people from history for his ideal dinner party, Dr. Eaton would include President Theodore Roosevelt, the developer of chiropractic, BJ Palmer, author JRR Tolkien, and musician Eddie Van Halen.

He says the coolest thing he has done was serve in the United States Navy. “I had the privilege of working in the White House and at Arlington Cemetery as well as aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt,” he says.

Dr. Maryanne Eaton joined The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2022 when she began serving residents at the Prescott Valley clinic location, a work she finds gratifying.

“What I enjoy most about being in the chiropractic field is the ability to touch people’s lives and encourage the body to heal and be healthy naturally,” she says. “I also like learning and growing as a chiropractor, and as a person, with each encounter with a patient.”

“Dr. Maryanne” as she is known to her patients, is a native of Orange County, Calif., and she previously worked as a chiropractor in Las Vegas, Nev.

In her free time, Dr. Maryanne enjoys hiking, eating and cooking; however, she says the most memorable experiences of her life involve travel.

“Traveling has provided me experiences, too many to count,” she says, “opening my eyes to the beauty in history, culture, architecture, food, and stretching my limits of adventure.”

Dr. Maryanne earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration at University of Phoenix and a Doctorate at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

Her husband, Dr. Spencer Eaton, is also a chiropractor, and she was inspired to join the profession when helping him research a career change. She was drawn to the natural approach to healthcare provided by the chiropractic field.

As a chiropractor, delivering a patient's very first adjustment is always memorable, she says: “It's such a treat to see and hear their reaction.”

In Case You Didn’t Know

You will always find hot sauce in the Eaton’s refrigerator because “it makes everything taste better.” The book she finds most meaningful is The Bible and she considers most other books just a form of entertainment.

If she was planning the perfect dinner party, Dr. Maryanne’s favorite guests would include three famous women known for their strength and brilliance: author Ayn Rand, political commentator Candace Owens, and former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. She would also invite comedian Ricky Gervais to make them all laugh.

“Laugh!” would be the most appropriate title for Dr. Maryanne’s autobiography, she says. “I laugh a lot because it not only makes me feel better mentally and physically, it often makes others feel better,” she says. “Be kind to everyone; you may make someone's day and your own.”

Dr. Rick Shand, D.C. is a Chiropractor at Prescott Valley

Dr. Rick Shand is a board certified chiropractic physician in clinical practice since 2001. He has been entrusted with the health and care of some of the finest professional and Olympic athletes as well as weekend warriors and Average Joes.

His passion for chiropractic began while attending college at Northern Arizona University with his sights firmly on medical school. It took getting kicked in the head (literally!) for Dr. Shand to change his mind about becoming a medical doctor and pursue chiropractic instead. Dr. Shand describes what happened as follows:

“Back in college, martial arts was my thing. I was passionate about the training and competition and I was pretty good at it. One day while practicing for a big competition, I took a kick to the side of the head (as my always-so-compassionate instructor said, “ya shoulda ducked…”). The head pain was intense, but by the next day I was having unbearable neck pain that shot right into my arm. It was so painful that I could barely even dress myself. After a few days of taking prescription drugs, I found myself getting no better. A second trip to the doctor ended with a new prescription, a pat on the back, and an “I’m sorry, there’s nothing more we can do for you, son.” I felt so hopeless. Besides the constant agonizing pain, my dreams of winning the big competition were being crushed before my eyes.”

“Eventually, a friend of mine convinced me to give their doctor a try. This new doctor did an exam, and then ‘adjusted’ my spine. The adjustment didn’t hurt, it actually felt good. I got relief, and I could use my arm again and was able to compete after all. That doctor happened to be a chiropractor. To be honest, before that I didn’t even think of chiropractors as real doctors…but it was the only thing that worked for me! It worked so well for me, and I was so impressed with the other ‘miracles’ I saw in his office, that I decided that I wanted to be a chiropractor myself.“ And the rest is history!

Dr. Shand has dedicated his career to patient centered care. His focus is not only to decrease their pain, but also improve function and promote over-all health and wellbeing so they can enjoy their lives to the fullest.

In his spare time, Dr. Shand enjoys travelling and hiking with his wife and teenage son…and if it’s winter time, you’ll mostly likely find him snowboarding on the slopes.
