Benefits of Home Exercise
By Donna Stark
Have your children left the nest and you aren't sure what to do with their empty bedrooms? Are you craving more convenience in your life or maybe even some extra cash at the end of the month? Exercising at home often gets a bad rap but I am here to tell you that in addition to those reasons, there are plenty more! So if you are struggling with the decision of letting your gym membership go, take a look at a few more benefits you can get from working out at home.
Is the weather not working in your favor? Do you have to stay late at work? Is your child at home sick? Once you start exercising at home, you may find that the excuses stop and that you are more likely to stick to your fitness goals. Plus, you can even work out in your pajamas if you wanted to.
How many times have you prayed that there would be an open treadmill at the gym when you walked through the doors? Or wished that you didn't have to keep an eye on a piece of equipment you are hoping to use next? When you work out at home, you get to skip all of that nonsense! Stop waiting in lines and get your workout done in no time.
No Uncomfortable Moments
Let's face it. Most gyms have those few people who make every move and every lift look easy and completely picture-worthy, and honestly, that can be a little intimidating. For some people, confidence is the deal-breaker when it comes to trying new things at the gym, but working out at home provides both the privacy and the comfort that a gym may lack.
No Missed Family Time
So many things in life take us away from those we love the most, but working out at home can keep the family together for an extra couple of hours a day. Establish healthy habits in your children and create a fitness routine for the whole family or design a workout space that allows them to be in the same room but gives them the opportunity to do something else, like homework.
Some people aren't very considerate when it comes to the germs they are spreading at the gym, and even though many will wipe off the machine when they are done, it's not always the deep clean you would want if they are sick. At least at home, you know what you are dealing with.
Working out at home is a great way to reach all of your health and fitness goals while keeping that much-needed balance in your life. So go ahead and utilize your child's old room. They can always use the sofa-sleeper when they come to visit.
