3 Ways to Protect Your Skin All Summer Long
By Genevieve Cunningham
It's summer, which means the heat and the sun are in full display. Though we definitely love this time of year, we don't always love the sweat and the sunburns that come with it. But what can we do, right? It's not like we're going to stay inside all summer. There's too much fun to be had! But it's definitely important to protect our skin in order to keep it youthful and safe from disease. If you want to enjoy your summer but protect the delicacy of your skin, take a look at these tips to provide protection through the hot summer months.
Hydrate
The skin needs water. The body as a whole needs water too so you're really doing yourself a lot of good by staying hydrated. When we're dehydrated, we feel it in the body through sluggish digestion or heart palpitations or exhaustion. And we feel it in the skin through dry skin, cracked skin, or excessive wrinkling. If you want to protect your skin and your body this summer, make a plan to drink more water every single day.
Shade, Shade, Shade
Yes, we all want the tan skin that looks golden and sun kissed. But if we spend all day in the sun, we're likely to turn from that golden tan to red and burned. Instead, spend a little time in the sun and then take advantage of the shade. This allows you to spend ample time outdoors, but without the inevitable burn that comes with excessive sun time. Use a tree, a hat, or an umbrella, but get out of the sun and lounge about with the shade protecting your skin.
Use Lotion
The summer is the perfect time to make lotion a habit. First, make sunscreen a habit. Every morning, layer yourself with sunscreen. Then apply again after a few hours, or as long as you'll be spending time outdoors. This is the best and most obvious way to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays. Second, make moisturizer a habit. Moisturizer is good for hydrating the skin, preventing wrinkles, and keeping the skin soft and youthful. These two steps, even if you ignore the rest, will be great additions to your routine and help you protect your skin long-term.
Your skin is one of the first things that others see. It's part of our first impression. Of course we want it to be healthy and look good! Use these tips to protect your skin this summer. With a few smart tips, you can enjoy your summer and protect your skin all at the same time.
