Sleep May Be Better Than a Spa
By Tom Herrin
A lot of times, people go to great lengths to make themselves look and feel more youthful. There are all kinds of lotions, treatments, and gimmicks that are purported to turn back the hands of time and provide a younger look. While some of them may have considerable merit, none are likely to have the impact that is present because of quality sleep. It has some abilities that simply cannot be replaced by modern technology no matter how much effort is put into it.
It May Be More For Less
Sleep can do things more productively and efficiently than any substitutes. It can help to reduce inflammation and improve creativity and overall mental function. Its benefits don’t stop there. It has been connected with athletic success as well as improving focus for many people. It may even be a missing element for some individuals who have been considered to have attention disorders. It may be able to replace some of those things that so many pay good money for since it can lower stress and help in weight management.
Good Sleep May Pose Challenges
For some people, obtaining sleep can be more difficult than it may seem to others. There are those who can fall into bed anytime and anywhere and sleep. For others, it can be much more of a chore. A few common things can disrupt good sleep. Eating too much or too late can be a problem. While exercise can promote sleep, doing so too close to bedtime can make it hard to relax. For others, lights or noise can be a problem one way or the other. A well-known inhibitor of sleep has long been caffeine.
A Personal Plan Is Best
Just like so many other things, there is no magic formula for sleep. It varies widely from person to person. The best way to improve quality is to experiment. Try changing your routine or establishing a new personal schedule. Some foods are known for their ability to help people relax while others can do almost the opposite. You would do well to examine your bedding. Look at the pillows, mattress, and room arrangement. Room temperature can also play a big part. Your efforts to improve your sleep can pay off in a big way.
