Does Variety Matter on a Diet?

Do you eat a variety of food on a diet, or prefer sticking to a couple of planned meals? Although personal preference is an important factor to consider, variety can actually help you stay on a diet. Eating the same thing for breakfast, lunch and dinner can be boring, and it can encourage cheating.

One of the dangers of not eating a variety of food is missing nutrients. If you skip an entire food group, then the risk of vitamin and mineral deficiencies increases. Eating a variety of vegetables, fruit, grains, nuts, seeds and other things makes it easier to get enough nutrients in the diet. In addition, variety can decrease the need to take supplements such as vitamins.

Eating the same things every day can become boring and take the joy out of meals. Instead of looking forward to lunch, you may be tempted to skip it because eating the same sandwich is not appealing. Variety adds more fun to people’s diets and encourages them to try new things. It makes meals more entertaining and surprising.

Combine green apple wedges, orange slices, white coconut flakes, brown raisins and red cherries together for a fun fruit salad. Eat different fruit and vegetables every day. Experiment with new recipes in the kitchen and try new spices.

Do not forget to have a variety of foods on your plate while dieting. It is still important to eat different things when trying to lose weight or improve health.
