Why You're Happier and Healthier In Love
By Brandi Swieter
Being in love means more than just feeling good thanks to the one you’re with. It actually brings many health benefits to the mind and body, making people happier and healthier than usual. There are a few select reasons people should choose love above all else.
Lowered Risk of Heart Disease
Stress can cause significant harm to the heart, increasing chances of heart disease. When in a stressful relationship, the chances of suffering from heart disease or a heart attack are much higher than usual. When in love, the chances are far lower, making it worthwhile to choose to fight or love daily and let the little things roll off your back.
Longer Life Expectancy
Married couples have a longer life expectancy than single individuals. They also experience a lower risk of developing heart attacks, pneumonia, and even cancer, according to a study from the National Longitudinal Mortality.
Lowered Risk of Depression
Depression sets in for many people due to isolation and feelings of being alone. For those in love, the risk for depression is much lower because there is a partner and person there for support and companionship.
Better Blood Pressure
Being in love brings better blood pressure readings. It was found that unhappily married couples frequently have the highest readings out of any group, single or otherwise. Those who are happily married with a loving spouse they adore frequently received typical readings that proved they did not suffer from either too low or too high blood pressure. Single individuals with a strong group of friends and family also did well in the study.
Ability to Cope With Stress
Stressors appear left and right in people’s lives, causing them to feel anxiety and tension. A person in love has a great ability to cope with the stress thrown their way, as they have another person to help them handle the situation. They can vent about their stresses and have another mind to help come up with solutions for the problems that are stressing them.
With many health benefits that love brings, it’s a mystery why some people choose not to put themselves out there. Those who are in love are often happier and healthier than those who aren’t romantically involved. To reap the benefits of loving someone, start looking for that special someone soon. Or get a pet.
