The Advantages of Adding Tea to Your Beverage List
By Brandi Swieter
With so many different varieties to choose from, it’s a wonder more people aren’t adding tea to their daily diet. Tea brings many benefits that people should be aware of before choosing other beverage options. With less caffeine than coffee and plenty of antioxidants, tea has far more advantages than many drink choices.
Antioxidants
Cancer-fighting properties are ideal in today’s day and age when cancer is such a leading cause of death. Many foods, such as fruits and vegetables, contain antioxidants that work to eradicate the body of bad cells. Tea contains some of these fighting properties as well. It’s best to get white tea, as these are much less processed than black or green tea versions.
Improving Heart Health
Green tea is said to have huge heart health advantages. Drinking a few cups a day could lower bad cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of having a heart attack. Most people don’t want to drink that many cups of tea in one day, so they can opt for a matcha tea instead. It’s not as widely available as green tea products, but just one cup has the same benefits.
Keeping Bones Strong
Some forms of tea have high amounts of calcium, such as moringa tea. With Vitamin A, Vitamin K, and iron also added, this tea works to keep the bones strong and prevent bone loss. Anyone looking to improve their bone health should try this option.
Preventing Tooth Damage
Coffee and sugary drinks quickly erode the teeth, leaving them weak and brittle. Tea is said to prevent tooth damage due to the fact it changes the pH balance in the mouth. Cavities are thus prevented, and stains are not usually left behind as with coffee. It does not work away at tooth enamel like other drinks tend to do, making it a much safer beverage choice for the mouth.
Calming Nausea
There aren’t too many drinks that help to calm feelings of nausea, but tea is one that does. Special herbal teas are designed to ease stomach discomfort. It has antispasmodic properties that make this possible.
Consider these advantages of adding tea to your beverage list the next time you’re in the mood for a drink other than water. While water is still the number one choice thanks to its zero calorie, zero sugar, full health benefits, tea is another beneficial option people can enjoy on occasion.
