Why You Should Really Consider Getting a Dog

By Genevieve Cunningham

Dogs make one of the best pets. They are fun-loving, sweet, and an exceptional friend. But as it turns out, owning a dog may be more than a little fun. It may actually be really good for your overall health. If you've been on the fence about getting a four-legged companion, take a look at these three reasons why you should really consider getting a dog for your family.

Companionship

Dogs are such great friends. They’ll meet you at the door when you get home. They’ll cozy up next to you on cold nights. They’ll be so excited to spend any time with you at all. And the truth is that all humans need companions. We need friends to do things with, to laugh with, and to go through life with. But who said this friend had to be a person? A dog can fulfill all of these areas of life, and even though you’ll probably still want a human friend or two, your dog can fill a void like no other.

Activity

Unless you have a super lazy dog or one that is creeping up in age, there’s a very good chance that your dog will be incredibly active. And this can help you stay active as well. You’ll have to take the dog on walks, play ball with them, and allow them some time outside. If you feel as though you’re just not active enough in life, getting a dog may push your activity to the next level.

Love and Loyalty

Dogs are loving creatures. As long as you treat them well, they’ll love you unconditionally. They’ll love you if you get mad, yell at them, or if you’re feeling depressed. They’ll love you through it all. This complete devotion and loyalty is good for us. It helps us also express the same love, and it makes us feel as though we belong and matter. If you get a dog, you may find your mental health improve in a big way, simply because of this long lasting love.

If you've been considering getting a dog, don't wait any longer. Find one at the pound, or adopt from a local shelter. They will be so excited to be loved again. By getting a dog for your home, you may find your health and your life improve in ways you never could have imagined.
