3 Reasons to Completely Skip the Dieting
By Genevieve Cunningham
Everyone knows the word diet. For most people, this tiny little four letter word strikes dread in their hearts and minds. Diet?! No thanks! But if we want to be healthy, going on a diet from time to time is necessary, right? Luckily, this train of thought couldn’t be any further from the truth. If you’re interested in being healthy, but you’re not keen on dieting, take a look at these great reasons to skip the diet and opt for healthy living instead.
Dieting is Temporary
Going on a diet implies that the healthy eating is temporary. While you might lose weight while you’re on this temporary change, there’s very little chance that the results will stick around. When the diet is over and you go back to your normal eating habits, you’ll probably gain the weight right back, and for many people, a few extra pounds come back as well. A healthy diet should be a lifestyle change, not a temporary condition. Until you’re ready to make healthy eating a habit day in and day out, very little is likely to change.
Dieting Sets You Up for Binge Eating
When you diet, you deprive yourself of certain foods. Going too strict with a diet and restricting all of your old favorites will probably set you up for eventual failure. Why? Because eventually, you’ll binge! When you’re having a weak moment, you’ll reach for your goodies. And since you’ve been holding back, you’re more likely to grab two or three instead of just a bite. Instead, allow for a little wiggle room in a healthy eating lifestyle change, and skip the restrictive part of a quick fix diet.
Dieting is Stressful
Worrying with every tiny thing that goes into your mouth is incredibly stressful. It heightens your mental stress and makes you feel on edge. And unfortunately, excessive stress raises hormone production in the body, ultimately leading to weight gain. It’s definitely a double-edged sword. You diet, but you stress, so you get nowhere! Taking a slow, methodical approach is much better for keeping stress under control and maintaining success in the long run.
Should you go on a diet? Only if your diet is a lifestyle change instead of a temporary quick fix weight loss scheme. Diets don’t work. Healthy lifestyles do! Make serious changes that encourage healthy living, skip the fad diet, and you’ll be in better health and feel better about your body before you know it.
