3 Ways to Prepare Your Body for Holiday Season
By Genevieve Cunningham
The holidays are coming, ready or not. This is the time of year when everyone starts thinking about the food, friends, and family that are soon to flood our hearts and homes. It comes at us fast, and most of us find ourselves unprepared. Part of getting prepared for the holidays includes buying gifts and cooking food. But another part is all about our health. Is your body ready? And if not, how can you get prepared? If you're ready to start thinking about your holiday health, take a look at these three ways to get prepared starting right now.
Think About Prevention
Even if you stay well, the holidays means being around your elderly grandparents, your newborn cousin, and everyone in-between. The more germs you can avoid, the better it will be for everyone. Consider seeing your doctor for a checkup, getting vaccines, and continually washing your hands and belongings. Start now, and you'll be ready to go by the time the first get-together comes around.
Start Drinking Water
Water is life. During the holidays, we tend to drink more of the good stuff -- tea, coffee, wine, eggnog. And while it's completely fine to consume these drinks, it's still imperative to drink plenty of water. This will keep you hydrated and also help prevent weight gain. Get into the habit right now, and it will be easier to stick with through the season.
Pick a Workout
One of the hardest parts about working out through the holidays is finding the time -- and then finding the energy. Instead of cramming your normal workout into less time, just pick a fun new workout to try over the season. It's a great time to have a little fun with something new and exciting. Choose yoga or Pilates or a cycling class. Give it a try through the whole season, and if you like it, stick with it. If you don't like it, it'll be easier to stick with because you'll know there's an end in sight.
Getting your body ready for the holidays is hard, but also very important. If you don't take the time to prepare, your body will be sore and stiff. There's no doubt that you'll feel the lack of preparation. Get ready starting now and you can enjoy the holidays -- and your health! -- all season long.
