How to Improve the Effectiveness of Chiropractic

Chiropractic care can provide great results on its own. You can do some things to help, however, that will make the effectiveness of chiropractic even better. Follow this list before and after your adjustment for the best results.


You should try a few stretches before you see the chiropractor. If your body is completely stiff and inflexible, it may be more difficult for your chiropractor to adjust your body as needed. Just a little stretching can help to loosen you up and prepare you to better handle the adjustment. After your session, you should also be sure to follow any stretching and exercise recommendations you're provided.


It's equally important to hydrate your joints before you go. Make sure you drink some water prior to your chiropractic visit so your joints can be manipulated more easily. You'll want to hydrate after as well, and continue giving your body the water it needs from here on out to stay limber and healthy.

Work on Your Weight

No, you most likely won't drop a ton of weight before each visit. You can, however, work on your weight slowly so that it won't inhibit your results. Drink plenty of water. Eat healthy foods. Exercise. Try your best to maintain a healthy weight so your bones and joints won't suffer. Too much weight on your joints can cause unnecessary stress and pain. A chiropractor can help with some discomfort, but even regular adjustments won't prevent much of the damage that excess weight can cause on your body.

Wear the Right Clothes

Don't head straight to the chiropractor from work if you're in a business suit or something uncomfortable. You shouldn't show up in a baggy sweatshirt and jeans either. You need comfortable clothes that fit well if you hope to get the most out of your adjustment. Something restricting will not allow you to move easily into the required positions. A thick or baggy sweatshirt won't give full access to your joints. Flexible clothing that allows you to move easily is best, such as what you'd wear during a workout. 

Don't Hold Back

Withholding information from your doctor is never recommended. The chiropractor needs the full story if you want him to treat you correctly. Even if you feel embarrassed or don't want to admit your poor habits, be candid. You don't want to hold back on any details because the chiropractor needs the full picture if he's going to provide accurate treatment.

Do everything you can to make the most of your chiropractic sessions. You should see results without preparations, but preparing for your visit and following guidelines afterward can help to improve the effectiveness of your adjustment. You may see longer-lasting results because of it.
