A Few Ways to Stay Active at Home With Your Family

By Lexi Herrin

A lot of people like to try to stay active but may have trouble finding time to go to the gym and exercise, especially in the summer when the kids are out of school. There are actually a lot of things that count as exercise that we often forget about. Here are some tips for you about ways that your family can stay active this summer.

Home Cardio

One of the easiest forms of exercise that you can do in your home is at-home cardio. The way that cardio works is by getting a person's heart rate up. There are several different ways to do that and some of them include running or walking, jumping jacks, riding a bike, and so many more. Some of the things that you can do in your own home at your own pace include running or walking on a treadmill or in place, riding a stationary bike, or even finding an instructional cardio video online. You and your family might even enjoy taking walks and going on bike rides together, it's a great way for you all to get your cardio in.

Yoga

Yoga is one of the best exercises that you can do at home. There are several different levels of intensity and they all are great for you. Yoga can help manage back and joint pain as well as helping to relieve stress and anxiety throughout your body. One of the best things about yoga is that while you can go to yoga classes, you can also do yoga in the comfort of your very own home thanks to instructional yoga videos that you can find on YouTube. It is also something that your kids can do and enjoy with you.

Things to Remember

Sometimes we forget about all of the things that actually count as staying active. Some of those activities include cleaning your home, working in your yard or garden, or even having a little dance party in your house. One of the things that we used to do at our house as a family is play the game Just Dance on an Xbox. Although we were just doing it for fun, we definitely got a workout in as well.
