How to Increase Your Fitness Motivation
By Sara Butler
For a lot of people, the hardest part about regular workouts is simply getting to the gym. After a long day, it can be difficult to boost your motivation to exercise when what you really feel like doing is throwing on some sweats and vegging out in front of the television.
Finding the motivation to exercise is important, but how do you get it done? Here are some easy ways you can try to inspire yourself to exercise more.
Keep Your Commitments Small
Having big dreams about what you're going to accomplish isn't a bad thing, but it can be a killer when it comes to your motivation because it can seem so overwhelming. Don't put too much on your shoulders when you're trying to get motivated or you may fizzle out before you really get going.
Start with a small goal instead, such as trying to eat healthier or walking for 30 minutes three times per week. Keep the goals small and attainable so you can build momentum and beef up your confidence.
When you reach one of your smaller goals, then go ahead and treat yourself. It's best if you avoid food rewards, but it'll help you stay motivated if you set rewards along with your goals. Think about buying yourself a few pairs of shoes or a much-deserved vacation. Rewards will make your fitness goals more fun to work toward and it might be just the thing you need to really get going.
Keep Your Focus on the Journey
It's easy to lose sight of where you're trying to get to if you only focus on the destination. Enjoy the journey along the way! It's best to understand that your health and fitness goals will have their ups and downs. By only focusing on your goals, you're more likely to struggle to reach them. Shift your focus to your journey and embrace your hard work and dedication every hour, every day, and every week.
Find a Friend
If you need help staying accountable when it comes to your workouts and diet, then find a friend to take the journey with you. They can help give you the kick in the pants you need to stay motivated while you do the same for them. If you can't find a friend, then join an exercise class at your local gym to find people who share your same interests and goals.
Workout motivation can be tough to find sometimes, but these tips should get you running!
