4 Health Hacks for School

By Brandi Goodman

The school year is already under way in some counties, and fast approaching in others. No matter if you're just starting the year or coming to the end of it, though, you want to be as healthy and prepared as possible. With some health hacks in mind, you can help your youngsters stay feeling well all throughout the school season.

Sing the Chorus of Your Favorite Song While Washing Hands

Washing hands is important no matter where you are, but it's especially necessary for kids in school that can easily pass germs to one another. Teach your kids how to wash their hands properly, for at least 20 seconds at a time. Give them this tip -- sing the chorus of your favorite song in your head to make sure you're washing long enough.

Do a Physical Family Activity After School

Stress and anxiety can really eat away at a person, no matter the age. Exercise helps combat feelings of anxiousness. When your kid is home from school, make sure to do a family activity together that involves something physical. It can help to alleviate tension and make it easier for them to fall asleep and get the rest they need. A walk, bike ride, or even game of catch outside can be a big help.

Buy a Cool Water Bottle

Water should always be the drink of choice, but kids will often have something to say about it. Sugary beverages such as juice boxes and soda pop cans are more appealing. Buy a cool water bottle your kid will like so they'll be more inclined to use it. Make sure it's full before they head to school in the morning so you know they have a healthy drink to use for at least part of their day. Encourage them to drink it and fill it back up come lunchtime.

Get Them Lightweight and Bright Clothing

Most kids get outside for at least a portion of the school day. Whether it's for recess or gym class, students will be outdoors and exposed to the sun and heat. Get them lightweight and bright clothing that will help them stay as cool as possible while outside. Heat exhaustion is possible, and you want to do everything possible to help prevent it.

School can be stressful and lead to sickness easily because of the spread of germs. Do what you can to help keep your kids feeling good both mentally and physically. It will help them get through the school year a bit easier.
