What If My Child’s Pediatrician Doesn’t Agree With Chiropractic Care?
I shared my experience of taking my nine-month-old daughter to the Chiropractor earlier this month. When it comes to my daughter’s health, I do a lot of researching. Based on my own research and beliefs, I have chosen no vaccinations, whole foods, and a natural way of healing and living. So imagine my surprise when a new doctor was shocked that I took my daughter to the Chiropractor. She turned to me and said, “I can’t believe you took her to a Chiropractor, and you are worried about vaccinations”.
Wherever you stand with your baby or child’s health, I am sure some of you have come across pediatricians who do not support the use of a Chiropractor for children. As a parent who can relate, here is my advice for you:
What If My Child’s Pediatrician Doesn’t Agree With Chiropractic Care?
In my certain situation, the pediatrician may have been smart in her field, but her off-handed comment showed a lack of knowledge in Chiropractic care for infants and children. Many pediatricians and other individuals will also spout off worry or concern without any experience or knowledge behind them. When your child’s pediatrician expresses disapproval, try these tips.
- Ask the doctor to back up her/his claim. Inquire why they have such strong feelings against Chiropractors. Furthermore, ask them if they have any experience or have seen a baby or child adjusted. Many times they relate Chiropractic care on infants with back cracking or rough handling. However, the adjustment my daughter received was very gentle.
- Ask for a second opinion. If the doctor’s remark has you worried, ask another doctor for a second opinion. In fact, ask for as many opinions as you need.
- Do your own research. Look at the pros and the cons from educated and reliable sources.
- Talk with a Chiropractor. If you have never taken your child to the Chiropractor and feel hesitant, don’t be afraid to visit and ask questions.
No matter how many opinions you get or how much research you do, remember that this is your child, and chances are you know what is best for him. So whether you feel that Chiropractic care is a good choice for your family or not, it is your choice in the end.
