Dr. Richard Grose joined The Joint Chiropractic team of local chiropractors in 2018. He received his doctorate from Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in 1980, where he received a bachelor’s of biological science while focusing on the musculoskeletal system, and the orthopedic and neurophysiological condition of the human body.
“The best thing about being in the chiropractic field is getting to help people every day,” Dr. Grose says. “The second-best thing is helping people with pain relief without the use of drugs or surgery.”
Dr. Grose grew up in Oklahoma, “a farming community, a one stop sign town.” It was much different from Pasadena and the other place he has worked in Southern California, Sherman Oaks. He is single, and enjoys golfing and spending time -- when he can - with his grown sons, an ER nurse in Ventura and Marine stationed overseas.
It was farmwork that indirectly led him to chiropractic. “When I was 12 years old, I tweaked my neck working on the farm,” he says. “A chiropractor fixed my neck and I knew right then that I wanted to be a chiropractor.”
One of the things that Dr. Grose likes best about working at The Joint is its mission statement, he says: “‘To improve quality of life through routine and affordable chiropractic care.’ And they share my feeling for the love of people.”
Actually, Dr. Grose had to come out of retirement to join the staff at Pasadena East. He had a successful practice in the San Fernando Valley for nearly 30 years before retiring, but discovered the “easy life” of retirement wasn’t the good life by his standards.
“My son encouraged me to call The Joint because he was tired of me talking about how much I missed treating patients,” Dr. Grose says.
The staff couldn’t be happier.
“We are glad he came out of retirement and joined our team,” clinic operator Adam Campos says, “because he’s an amazing chiropractor.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Grose says the one thing he always has stocked in his refrigerator is yogurt: “It’s a great evening snack that’s healthy.”
Dr. Grose says that he would love the opportunity to sit around the dinner table and break bread with some of history’s heavyweights and pop culture’s icons.
“I would like to pick Albert Einstein’s brain, as well as talk to President Abraham Lincoln,” Dr. Grose says. “I would also choose Denzel Washington, because I think he’s a great actor and I respect his views on politics, and Frank Sinatra because I love his music.”
The coolest thing Dr. Grose has done took place when he was a youngster.
“I wrestled from the fourth grade up through high school,” he says. “I was undefeated one year in dual matches and tournaments. It gave me the confidence I have today, gave me respect for the other person, and humbled me to help make me the man I am.”
