All the Benefits of Kite Flying
By Brandi Goodman
National Kite Flying Day falls to February 8th. Though many would believe the holiday would be celebrated in the summer, there's never a bad time to head outdoors for some exercise and fun. All you need is some wind and sunshine and you can fly a kite with ease while gaining all the benefit the activity has to offer.
Improve Mood and Overall Well-Being
Spending time watching a kite soar through the blue sky is a great way to clear the mind. You'll be so focused on watching where the kite goes and trying to maneuver it through the air that you won't have time to worry about the stresses in your daily life. It's an easy way to improve mood and your overall well-being. Heading outdoors is already one option when it comes to improving mental health. Add the activity to the mix and you're even more likely to have a good time.
Get Exercise
People need to exercise if they want to stay healthy. Finding an activity that seems like fun instead of a workout can be a great way to do so. You'll be spending your time running to get the kite flying in the air and then walking back and forth as you watch it soar. This is ideal exercise because it gets your whole body working and your heart rate up. You'll improve your level of fitness and have your heart pumping to boost cardiovascular health.
Socialization
Though you may head outside alone with your kite, many people enjoy kite flying together. It gives you the opportunity to socialize and surround yourself with others. This is another way to boost mood and enhance mental health. Many families enjoy a day of kite flying and friends can too. Get a couple of kites and have competitions to see who can get theirs to soar the highest.
Enhance Eyesight
Your eyesight gets enhanced when you spend time flying a kite. Staring at the blue sky as you watch your kite dance from one area to the next will have your eye muscles working hard. It can even fight eye fatigue and improve your vision as your eyes work to focus on the tiny shape your kite becomes as it drifts farther away.
Some major health benefits are possible from kite flying. Enjoy the activity on its national day or any time throughout the year when the weather holds up for some fun and fitness. Children and adults alike can get enjoyment from the popular childhood pastime.
