Take the Stress Out of Summer With Safety Tips

By Brandi Goodman

Summer is a time of joy for many. With some safety concerns on the mind, however, it can feel a bit stressful for some. Take the stress out of summer with safety tips that help you and your family stay safe all season long.

Always Keep Water Handy

Whether you're inside doing something fun or outside enjoying the nice weather, you need to stay hydrated. It's especially easy to get dehydrated when you're outdoors in the heat. You should always keep water handy so you never have to stress about where to get your next drink. Keep a jug in the fridge. Have a water bottle with you when you're out and about. Scope out where the nearest fountain is. Water should always be close by.

Put a Fence Around Your Pool

Even if you think your door is locked and your kids are safe inside, they can find a way to sneak out and make their way outdoors. If you have a pool that's left wide open, it's a quick way for them to end up hurt or worse. You need to have a fence around your pool that only adults can open so you can take the fear of your child drowning this summer out of your head. It will help you feel a bit more secure knowing they can't get to the water without you present.

Keep Sunscreen in Stock

Sunscreen should be in stock at all times in your household. Have some at home and in your car so you always have it handy. You should be applying sunscreen several times per day if you're spending lots of it outside. It will wear off quickly and require another application if you want it to continue working. The sun can be extremely harmful to your skin. You won't just turn red from burning, but you'll be exposing yourself to the potential of cancer. Wear sunscreen and make sure your kids do as well.

Watch Out for Wildlife

The summertime is when many people experience wildlife death. There are more animals trying to come out from their hiding spots to get a drink of water and explore their surroundings. Crashing into a small animal may not do any damage, but hitting something larger can cause some serious stress in your life. Watch out for wildlife on the roadways and even when you're bike riding so you can avoid hitting something. Also be sure to check under your vehicle before leaving so you don't accidentally run over a small animal trying to get some shade.

Summer should be fun and care-free. Focus on safety now and you'll be sure to have a joyful summer free from problems. You wouldn't want to spend up all your warm days at home or in the hospital.
