3 Tips for Staying Healthy This Holiday Season
By Virginia Laird
Holiday season is a wonderful, exciting time of year. It is also the time of year when the flu virus runs rampant. There is little that can actually be done to prevent the sharing of this virus. However, many healthcare professionals suggest a wide variety of tips which can slow the spread of these germs. With holiday gatherings in the near future of many across the nation, there will be a need for all to take some precautions because, let’s face it: You love your family but do not want to share any illnesses. A few tips to be sure to begin adding to your daily routine include:
- Clean your home and office frequently
- Use sanitizer often
- Manage your stress daily
Clean Your Home and Office Frequently
Cleaning your home and office frequently is another thing which can help prevent the flu from taking over your home. Think about the many people you may come in contact with, or the number of people who may come into your home or office. Their germs come, too. The best way to prevent the spread of these germs is to clean often, using antibacterial formulas.
Use Sanitizer Often
Sanitizer can be your best friend during flu season. There are far too many times you may need to clean your hands, but may not be near a sink. Sanitizer can help rid the hands of unwanted bacteria and germs. Use your sanitizer frequently and be ready to share with those around you. Sharing it can keep germs from coming your way.
Manage Your Stress Daily
Stress is a drag. It can wreak havoc on the body. Stress can cause tension to build, headaches, sleep loss, and hamper the function of the immune system. Having a great deal of stress can increase the odds of having an illness, such as the flu, take over your body. There are ways to manage your stress, including:
- Get some exercise
- Get outside
- Go for a walk
- Get plenty of sleep
- Spend time on a hobby
Before you head out the door to your family party or holiday gathering, make sure to put your sanitizer (and some extra to share) in your bag or purse. Happy holidays and may the flu pass your home by this season!
