Have Fun While You Get in Shape

By Tom Herrin

Who said exercise has to be boring?  Some people believe it's due to their past experiences.  While many prefer the regularity of some kind of an exercise program they can count on and know every move, others find this kind of exercise to be extremely dull.  Doing the same thing over and over, for them, can tend to turn them off and send them searching for something else.  It doesn't take long until they cease to do any kind of exercise and become a couch potato.  Finding fun activities can go a long way toward living a healthier lifestyle.

Have You Ever Been a Skater?

I was never very good at skating when I was younger.  Lots of people made it look fun, but I always seemed to end up on the floor or hanging onto the rail on the side.  As a result, I didn't try it much.  As an adult, I have learned that it is a little easier with some of the newer kinds of skates.  They are lighter weight and can be used almost anywhere.  The rollerblades that we see today are much easier to use.  Participating in this can be a really fun activity and one that may help your physical efforts.

Are You a Hitter?

Some people love baseball or softball.  If you are one of these, a good form or mild-to-moderate exercise may be to go to a batting cage and spend some time.  You may quickly find yourself competing for personal goals.  It can be a better workout than you may remember, and you won't have to be chasing balls all over the place.  You just want to be sure to use the right kind of protective equipment and spend an adequate amount of time stretching beforehand.

Birdwatching May Be Your Thing

If you have never done any kind of birding, you may not understand what it is all about.  It can actually be fun to try to follow and identify different kinds of birds.  You will find yourself doing a little more studying as you try to learn as much as possible.  It can be a good way to get some mild exercise as you move around outdoors to try to get in position to see what you need.  With today's phones, you have a camera and computer at your disposal pretty much all of the time, too.
