Could chiropractic care’s benefits extend to symptoms of deficit disorders in children?
A 2009 study offered a case study of 157 children who were administered chiropractic care after being diagnosed with developmental delay syndromes like dyslexia or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
The study featured a sample of 157 children (86 boys and 71 girls) between the ages of 6 and 13 years who had trouble with reading comprehension, academic learning, social interaction, and overall performance in the classroom.
All of the patients were administered a multimodal chiropractic treatment approach via a kinesiology chiropractic therapy. A total of eight standardized psychometric tests were administered to the children by a professional speech therapist both before and after chiropractic care. These tests examined 20 different areas of cognitive abilities, along with patient- or parent-reported improvements in academic performance, social activities, and sporting habits. Group and individual data found that following treatment, all study participants showed improvements in the eight psychometric exams as well as 20 cognitive function symptoms compared with initial baseline values. Their concentration ability, focus maintenance, attention span, and impulsivity control, not to mention their general performance in both home and school, got better.
In conclusion, this study indicates that a multimodal chiropractic approach analyzing motor obstruction was able to decrease symptoms and improve the cognitive abilities of these child participants.
