Fall Variety May Invite Better Health
By Tom Herrin
When people get into a rut, they can become pretty complacent. Doing the same thing over and over, or doing nothing over and over, can be an easy habit to get into. When the seasons change, people may sometimes become more inspired. For many people, the fall can be a time when there are beautiful colors, cooler air, and an easier time for activity. I find that I am able to do more exercise with less stress at this time of year. It can be a time when the rewards for added activity may be more visible in a shorter period of time. Taking advantage of the pleasant weather can be a positive step toward better health.
Try An Activity That's Just For Fun
There are quite a few activities in the fall that are just plain fun activities to do. Corn mazes have become pretty popular. They pose the challenge of finding the way out and provide a little bit of exercise while doing it. As people begin to be frustrated with the maze as they feel closed in and lost, their heart rate tends to increase and they can burn a couple of hundred calories in just an hour of searching around for a way out.
Doing Fall Duties Can Serve As Exercise
When those leaves begin falling, someone has to get them up. Most everyone knows that the longer they wait, the bigger the job becomes. Raking a few leaves every day can be another way of getting exercise without really calling it that. People should still stretch a little before they start, but once they begin, they can become pretty preoccupied with the task. They will often do quite a bit before they realize it. It has been said that an hour of raking may burn as many as 400 calories.
Take Some Indoor Activities Outdoors
Whether it is reading, creating, or repairing something, there is a different feeling when you do it outside in the pleasant fall air. You can enjoy the scenery and the temperature at the same time. If can often be relaxing and serve as a stress reliever. Add a new twist to your life and improve your health. Remember that variety always adds something special to life. If you want to improve your health, try some fun things as well as work; they can increase your enjoyment as you do something for your health.
