3 Ways to Make Your Workout Burn a Little More

By Genevieve Cunningham

Getting fit can feel like such a chore. We put a lot of thought and effort into getting in shape, and it can be incredibly frustrating when we don't see results. But why don't we see results? Sometimes it's because we're not being strict enough on our diet. Sometimes it's because we're not getting enough sleep. And sometimes it's because our workouts just aren't hitting the mark. They're just not challenging enough, and so our bodies aren't forced to change. So how can we change that? If you need to feel a little more burn during your workout, take a look at these tips to help you find success.

Increase Intensity

The harder you work, the more your workout is going to burn. This might mean running your mile a little faster. It might mean doing 25 burpees in a minute instead of 20. It might mean squeezing one more interval into your program. Hitting your workout with a little more intensity can give you a little extra burn to keep your body and mind challenged.

Add One Challenging Element

Sometimes we don't have to change our entire workout, we can just change one simple element. If you like aerobics, just add handheld weights. The workout will get a lot harder! If you like to jog, try jogging uphill. Just adding one really challenging element is enough to make your body work harder, which means change will happen faster, and motivation may creep back into your life.

Take Fewer or Shorter Breaks

Breaks are important. They give us a chance to grab some water and let our heart rate slow down. But if the goal is more burn, you can take fewer or shorter breaks. Your heart won't be able to slow down as much, and you'll jump back into the workout fatigued, but ready to go. This is a tough approach, so don't push yourself too much or too quickly. Slowly transition to fewer breaks, and the workout will feel harder and harder as you go.

If you're going to work out, you want it to burn, right? You want it to be effective! You want stronger muscles, less fat, and more endurance. But if you never change it up, you won't meet these goals. Use these tips to challenge your body, make your workout burn, and get closer to your dream body and ultimate fitness goals.
