3 Simple Ways to Boost Your Mood During Hard Times

By Genevieve Cunningham

We all come across hard times in our lives. Sometimes we lose a job. Sometimes we go through sickness or injury. Hard times can be frustrating and overwhelming, and oftentimes, these moments leave us in a state of disarray. We feel bad, and fighting our way out of these feelings is a serious chore. It's hard, but luckily, it's not impossible. If you're looking to boost your mood and improve your perspective after a setback, take a look at these instant mood boosters to try in your life today.

Get Outside for Some Sunshine

The sun is a natural mood booster. We're often taught that the sun is just dangerous -- and it can be. But it's not all bad. We actually need the sun in order to get the right amount of Vitamin D into our bodies. If you're not feeling your best, spend a little time outdoors. You can walk, work in the yard, or just lie around. The sun, the fresh air, and the time in nature can completely change your attitude and leave you feeling refreshed.

Get Your Body Moving

If you're not currently moving your body on a regular basis, you should start. Inactivity can exacerbate a poor mood. Regular movement -- whether it's intense exercise or a gentle stretch -- can really ramp up your energy and boost your mood. And if you want double the effect, put on your walking shoes and go for a hike. You'll get movement plus exercise all in one go.

Do Something Personal

If you're not feeling your best for whatever reason, give yourself a little love. How? By doing something specifically for you. If you have a hobby you love, spend some time doing it. If you want to learn something new, take a class. Spend some time doing something very personal to you. Giving yourself a little time and attention can help change your mood and make you feel better about both yourself and life in general.

Everyone gets down and has bad moments in life. It's completely normal! And it's completely normal for your mood to slide as a result. But don't let this feeling last. Use these tips to break the bad mood, improve your perspective, and start feeling better in no time at all.
