3 Reasons to Find a Personal Passion

By Genevieve Cunningham

It seems as we get older, many of us get wrapped up in the inner workings of life. We go to work and pay bills. We take our kids from one practice or lesson to another. But we lose our own personal passions. We forget that we're allowed to spend time and energy on ourselves, and we forget how important it is to have our own thing. If you're guilty of putting everything and everyone before yourself, take a look at these three great reasons to find a personal passion in your life.

It Helps With Self Satisfaction

Self satisfaction is key to feeling happy in life. Finding and participating in a personal passion allows you to create your own self satisfaction. It doesn't matter if you're engaging in exercise, painting, quilting, or building model airplanes. When you complete something related to your passion, it gives you a sense of satisfaction that you can only bring into your own life for your own health.

It Gives You Mental Challenges

It's so important to keep the mind sharp. We have to continually challenge and focus the mind in order to keep it healthy. Unfortunately, most of us live our lives on autopilot. Staying engaged in a personal passion allows us to keep the mind working -- whether we're 8 years old or 80 years old. Choose something that really captures your interest, and it will be so much easier to protect the health of your brain.

It Protects Mental Health

Mental health -- of almost everyone in our modern world -- seems to be suffering. Is it because of awareness? Is it because of the state of our world? No one really knows. But we do know that keeping something for you -- something that really intrigues and inspires you on a personal level -- can help keep mental health in a better place. You don't even have to do it every day, but find something you love and stick with it in order to keep depression, anxiety, or feelings of hopelessness away.

If you don't have a personal passion, it's time to find one. Experiment. Try new things. Ask friends for advice. Keep looking until you find something that lights a fire. Once you find it, make time to engage in the activity to improve your overall health and well-being for years to come.
