Simple Ways to Maintain Great Health
By Donna Stark
A good night of rest, a nutrient-dense diet, a daily workout routine -- you already know these will improve your overall wellness, but did you know that taking off your shoes and hanging out with your best friend will too? That's right! Optimal well-being doesn't only consist of the good old standbys we have grown to love. There are plenty of other ways to maintain great health as well. But the best part about it all is that you may be doing some of them already without even realizing it. Take a look at some examples below.
Spend Time Under the Sun
Spending time with Mother Nature is one of the best ways to reduce stress, improve moods, and increase your levels of Vitamin D. Find new ways to enjoy the outdoors by looking for different forms of exercise, meditation, and play. You won't regret doing so!
Take Your Shoes Off
You may have been grounded by your parents as a teen, but grounding takes on an entirely different meaning now that you are an adult. Grounding is the process of connecting your body with the earth. By taking your shoes off and walking barefoot while outside, you may experience a reduction in pain, an improvement in sleep, and restoration of your energy.
Put Technology Away
Plenty of studies have proven our technology isn't really that good for us, so why don't you try to use your electronic devices less? Make it a goal to limit the amount of time you are on your phone or laptop every day and at the very least, turn them off an hour before bed. It may be hard at first, but you can do it!
Nurture Relationships With Friends and Family
Connections with others are key for your well-being so take the time to nurture the important relationships in your life. Being disconnected and lonely can increase the risk of stress, depression, and inflammation in the body, but healthy relationships can help negate all of that. Go ahead and invite your loved ones over for dinner or meet your friends for coffee!
Make a Difference
Volunteering your time and talents to charitable organizations is not only a great way to stay connected with others, it's also a step in the right direction if you want to live longer! Giving back to your community reduces the risk of depression, increases your feelings of self-worth, and can make a huge difference in the lives of others.
Simple Ways to Maintain Great Health
The behaviors and habits you establish today will significantly impact your overall health and wellness in the future, so make sure you are choosing wisely. Remember, optimal well-being comes from many different sources, so find what works best for you and stick with it!
