Why Diet Pills Aren't the Answer to Weight Loss

By Genevieve Cunningham

Diet pills. It seems as though different diet pills take the spotlight for a while as the best way to lose weight. We’re bombarded by commercials or advertisements claiming almost miracle levels of weight loss in an incredibly short period of time. It’s tempting to believe the hype and give them a try. But before you jump on the newest diet pill fad, take a look at these reasons why diet pills may not be the answer to weight loss, but may instead get in the way of your long-term progress.

They’re Not Sustainable

Diet pills are not meant to be taken long-term. They’re made to be taken for very short amounts of time, and then for their consumption to stop. Think of them more as a way to kickstart the metabolism than a way to lose weight continuously over a long period of time. Taking them every day for the rest of your life simply wouldn’t be sustainable. After a while, the pills wouldn’t work the way they were intended, and may even be dangerous to your health.

They Aren’t a Lifestyle Change

The only real way to lose weight and keep it off is by changing your lifestyle for the better. This includes moving the body more through exercise and eating a well balanced diet. Diet pills do not begin any sort of lifestyle change, nor do they encourage any real change long-term. Because of this, they’re unlikely to allow permanent weight loss or significant change to your overall health and wellness.

They May be Potentially Unhealthy

The thing about diet pills is that the popular one is always changing. Why? Usually it’s because the current king of the diet pills is found to be unhealthy. Diet pills are often incredibly popular until someone has some very real and very nasty side effects. After this happens, they’re studied a bit more closely, and they’re determined to be unhealthy. If you choose the diet pill route, just know that you’re taking a risk by ingesting the remedy.

Maybe you’ve tried diet pills in the past, and maybe you even found some success. But the truth is that diet pills aren’t and can’t be your long-term solution. Break the cycle of diet pill weight loss by making lasting changes to your lifestyle and routine. Only after you’ve done this will you find ultimate success and long-lasting results to enjoy for the rest of your life.
