Improve Your Health with a Rope

By Tom Herrin

When it is time to get back to that workout, people generally look for something new and different.  There are plenty of good programs available. Some are more expensive than others. All have some good things.  The key is to find something that works best for the individual. One choice that is inexpensive and flexible is jumping rope.  The price of a rope is almost nothing. As for other equipment, there really is none. Many people prefer to jump barefooted. Since it is completely self-paced, it works for all kinds of schedules.

It Can Reduce Foot and Ankle Injuries

When people jump rope, they develop a better discipline about their actions.  Landing on the balls of their feet rather than flat-footed can train them to do this by habit.  It can carry over into other activities they participate in as well. The repetition of jumping also helps to protect these areas that often suffer injuries due to quick-stopping and turning.  This can make everyday activities less likely to result in injuries.

It Is Good for Cardio

There is no doubt about the fact that jumping rope is an aerobic activity.  This means that it works with a constant supply of oxygen, building endurance for the body.  The heart will become more efficient in carrying blood. Even if people are able to start with a minimal amount of time spent jumping, their efforts will pay off over time.  They will be able to increase their duration, which will continue to improve the cardiovascular system. Breathing will be better as well as they will be able to do more with less fatigue.

It May Improve Focus

Most of us have seen boxers jumping rope.  It is a pretty stereotypical picture in our minds.  They use this for conditioning and discipline. It helps to perform work while still keeping focus on the task at hand.  This helps them to maintain a certain calm while they are in the midst of commotion. It can do the same thing for those of us who simply want to improve our condition.  We may be able to remain calm under stress. This is a pretty good outgrowth of the activity. When you can help avoid injuries, improve conditioning, and manage your life more effectively, it is a pretty good thing.
