Cut Carbs But Not All the Way

By Tom Herrin

When people are trying to make changes in their diets to have a positive effect on their health, they usually add or take away something.  Changes mean just that.  They alter something they are doing at the present time in order to cause a chain reaction within their bodies.  The hope is surely to experience better health.  In recent times, a popular thing to be cut from a diet is carbs.  Many seem to be buying into the notion that they can shift the way the body uses some of the macronutrients.  Using stored energy in the body may be good, but achieving a good balance is important.

Some Carbs Can Rob Health

Today's world is carb-rich.  That is, a large amount of the food available is loaded with carbs.  Those with lots of sugar are in the stores in countless numbers.  They account for plenty of the quick snacks purchased.  These also help contribute to plenty of health issues.  It has been recommended that women limit their intake of such foods to 100 calories per day and that men limit theirs to 150.  It is easy to go over these limits without even realizing it.  Reading labels may be a good way to improve awareness.  It could be a smart practice.

Some Carbs Are Necessary

The body cannot function and be healthy without some carbs.  They fuel activity and support healthy muscles.  When they are lacking, the body may begin to use muscles for fuel.  This will result in loss of lean muscle tissue.  Obtaining good carbs is pretty simple.  Following the admonition of grandparents who said to eat more fruits, vegetables, and grains makes it easy.  For the most part, these can make the best foods to satisfy hunger and stop cravings.

Balance the Diet and Health

When we do what we can to eat right, we are likely to have the kind of health we want.  It is not a big secret.  We must keep ourselves informed and use the information available.  We also need to do what we can to avoid making drastic cuts to our diet without researching the possibilities.  Understanding the role of various nutrients is a good place to start.  I do what I can to be ahead of the game.  It seems to pay off.  There is no doubt that it can give us a better opportunity to make good decisions.
