Find a Better Way to Exercise
By Tom Herrin
When you are all out of options, sometimes you punt. When it comes to exercise, we all need to have some kind of schedule. Daily exercise can help us to manage weight as well as keep our hearts in good shape. It also helps maintain muscles. For many of us, the thought of a regular exercise routine sounds miserable. We just can't get into it. If we do not have quick results, we may lose motivation and fall back into some sedentary patterns of behavior. This does not have to be the case as we can get involved with some fun activities and enjoy ourselves more while getting and/or staying in shape.
Jumping Rope
If you are limited on time and space, jumping rope may be your thing. You can do it almost anywhere. You can listen to music or watch television as you do it. You may also jump rope as you jog. Many of us likely remember seeing boxers training using a jump rope. There have been several school programs that have focused on inspiring children to participate in jumping rope as part of a fundraiser. It is easy, and you can jump at your own pace.
You Can Take a Hike
Hiking is something that some of us think of as being for kids only, or maybe you remember time in the service when you had mandatory hikes. The hiking I am referring to is voluntary, and you can do it almost anywhere. Most parks or natural areas have hiking trails. You simply need good shoes and the right kind of clothes. Water is essential, and if people get in trouble hiking, it is most often because they did not have adequate water. The key is to avoid hiking any distance but make it circular or there and back until you are more experienced and familiar with it.
If You Dare, Try Kayaking
Some of us are more adventurous. For those who are, activities that are a little more challenging can be really enjoyable. They can also provide a pretty good workout. Kayaking is not for the timid. You will need to be able to paddle and roll your boat. It won't be long until you find yourself searching for other places to put it into the water. From those I know who have fallen in love with this activity, they seem to thrive on it, and you will stay in pretty good shape.
