Too Much Tension? Find Relief With These Tips
By Genevieve Cunningham
Everyone experiences tension in their everyday life. Sometimes, it's tension from work. Maybe we have too much to do or we have a big deadline to meet. We might start to feel tension in the back and neck, or we may end up with a tension headache. But tension can stem from other places as well -- home life, personal goals, or even physical issues such as injury or exercise. If we want to feel better, we have to learn how to release the tension -- from both body and mind. If you're ready to lessen the tension in your life, take a look at these tips that can help you get started today.
Yoga
Yoga is great for physically releasing tension. Each pose is meant to provide both challenge and release -- and it works! But it can also help you release mental tension. Yoga teaches you to breathe. When we know how to properly breathe, we can release tension with every breath. You may not feel massive relief on your first try. Yoga is a discipline that requires consistency and patience. But if you stick with it, yoga may be all you need to let go of tension and feel better in body and mind.
A Nap
Are you actually getting enough sleep? The harsh truth is that you're probably not. Without adequate sleep, we're going to feel so much more stress and tension. If you have the time (or can make the time), consider adding a short nap to your afternoon. A bit of rest can help both body and mind relax for less tension and better health.
Time Off
If the tension is long-term and has been sticking around for a while, it might be time to take some time off. Schedule a day off from work and get away. Or hole up in your house with something really relaxing. We can't work constantly without breaks. We have to allow time for relaxation and recuperation. If the other approaches aren't working, take time off and let the tension melt away all day long.
Tension is going to happen. There's little we can do to completely avoid it. But there is plenty we can do to reduce tension and keep it manageable. Use these tips to get rid of tension in your body and life, and you may find better health and a happier life every day.
