Starting Over: A New Year and a Healthier You
By Virginia Laird
A new year means a fresh start. Starting over can be invigorating. It is time to begin looking forward to creating a healthier you. How do you get there? Where should you begin? These are a couple of great questions to begin with. Before biting off more than you are prepared to commit to, try a few simple changes. Keeping the changes in your lifestyle easy can help ensure your success. Some things to consider include:
- Eat breakfast daily
- Make time to exercise
- Make sleep a priority
Eat Breakfast Daily
When looking for a healthy change to make in the new year, begin with making time to eat breakfast daily. Eating breakfast gives the metabolism a jumpstart. It can also help you to focus. Research suggests when the first meal of the day is skipped, it can hamper not only the brain’s ability to function but also slow some of the functions of the body. Breakfast does not need to be a huge meal, something simple will suffice. There is a wide variety of breakfast shakes, breakfast bars and other on-the-go choices to make your life in the mornings more simple.
Make Time to Exercise
Making time to exercise is a great way to improve your health. It does not need to mean spending hours on end at the gym. It could be as simple as a brisk walk or a jog around the neighborhood. Personal trainers recommend exercising three to four times a week for at least 30 minutes. When making your fitness resolution for the next year, be sure to make time to exercise on a regular basis.
Make Sleep a Priority
Another simple way to improve your health is to make sure you are getting enough sleep. Sleep plays a huge role in your overall health. Without getting enough sleep, the functions of the body may be hampered. Research suggests adults should get at least six hours of sleep each night. For those who have small children it can be difficult to achieve a full night's rest as often as you would like.
Now you are ready to begin your resolutions with simple goals. Don’t sweat it if you have a few days where these changes seem difficult. You can battle through the struggle and find your way to success. Make sure your 2018 is the best year ever.
