Taking the Mayhem Out of May
By Donna Stark
April showers may bring those flowers but that's not the only thing the month of May is filled with. Have you taken a look at your calendar lately? Or have you avoided doing so because every time you add an event, you inch a little closer to that full-blown panic attack that is waiting right around the corner? Because, as we have all experienced, May is the social butterfly's dream month, isn't it? From graduation parties, to teacher appreciation days, to end-of-the-year school events, to one award banquet after the next, let's just say that your life could very well come to a screeching halt if you couldn't access that over-scheduled calendar. And if you can't eliminate events to keep that panic attack from happening, we are going to need to work on saving your sanity. Here are a few tips to help you get through this crazy month!
Calendar Upkeep
Make sure you put every piece of information into your calendar. Include the name of the event, the time it begins and the approximate time it should end, the address, and perhaps even the amount of time it will take to drive there. Why? Well, have you ever jumped into your car to do something and are missing vital information? It's during times like these that frustrations mount, tempers flare, late arrivals increase, and unsafe driving is elevated. So do everyone a solid favor and avoid that from happening as much as possible by having all the information you need in one place.
Build That Gift Closet
There is nothing worse than expecting to have time to shop for all of those gifts you need and then having your busy schedule block that from happening. Stop the craziness and last-minute shopping and plan for these several weeks in advance. The next time you are out, grab a couple extra gift cards, some gift bags or wrapping paper, and a few gender-neutral gifts or snacks. Being prepared for those spur of the moment parties will take away a lot of that extra stress this month.
Slow Down and Enjoy the Moments
Sure, the hustle and bustle of this time of year is great, which is why it is important to find those moments when you can slow down and breathe. Even if it is in the car as you are driving from one event to the next. It's important to treasure these times so that you can fully enjoy the moments you have with your loved ones.
Taming May's Mayhem
It's no coincidence that mayhem has the word "May" in it, but by taking a few simple steps to bring some calm into your days, you will be able to skip the panic attacks this year! So take a deep breath and enjoy. After all, May only comes around once a year.
