5 Tips Toward Relieving Anxiety or Depression
By Stephen R. Farris
With the problems of today's society, there's no wonder many more folks are developing anxiety and depression. However, if you do suffer from anxiety or depression, there are ways you can take control to relieve it and develop positive outcomes.
Purpose
Anxiety can take a toll on your body, leaving you drained and exhausted. The first step is to identify what is causing your anxiety and work towards relieving it. Relieve with a purpose. For instance, you're feeling anxious about appearing on stage in front of a big crowd. Do something positive for yourself. This can help put your mind at more ease.
Meditate
Meditation is another useful tool in helping relieve anxiety and depression. Find a quiet place, clear your mind and focus on positive thoughts. Try to take at least 10 minutes each day -- or when needed -- to practice meditating.
Be Creative
Being creative doesn't require a whole lot of time, depending on the subject matter you choose. Bringing out your creative side when anxiety or depression hits can help relieve it. It doesn't have to be much. If you have a pen and paper, try doodling something. It doesn't matter what, just as long as you're doing something to take your mind off of what's causing your anxiety or depression. Other things you can try is painting, making small flower arrangements, planting something in the garden. The main thing is to do something to help relieve your anxiety or depression.
Take a Brisk or Casual Walk
Walking can be a great way to get some exercise. But if you're having difficulty with anxiety or depression, it can be a helpful tool towards relieving it. Getting outdoors and taking a walk can help you sort through your thoughts, produce a more positive vibe, and might even help solve whatever issue that's bothering you. Think of walking as an all-in-one health benefit both mentally and physically.
Sing Praises Towards Others
Practice singing praises towards others. For instance, make someone else feel good about themselves such as letting them know how much you enjoy their presence, or telling them how much you like their new shirt or dress. Again, this is focusing on the positives, in a positive manner, that could also help when it comes to relieving anxiety and depression.
